I hooked up a Uniden BCD346xt (analogue) scanner to Unitrunker and instead of showing Nashua PD as `dig' it now shows `enc'.
Does this mean that Nashua PD is now encrypted or is the scanner giving false readings?
I was listening last night on my 396xt and all routine chatter on TG 49168 and 49200 were in the clear. The TGs used by the "David" units appear to be ENC'd all the time. It's been that way for a long time.
Did the scanner happen to stop on an ENC'd TG?
IIRC, when the 396t and 396xt models are scanning a Moto trunked system, they automatically ignore a TG whenever ENC traffic is detected. You may hear a short burst of ENC traffic and then it mutes then resumes scanning. When scanning conventional channels it doesn't know if received P25 traffic is in the clear or using ENC and you'll hear both types come through.
When using Unitrunker, does it treat Nashua's system as conventional channels? If so, that might explain hearing the garbled sound of ENC traffic coming thru on one of the TGs instead of automatically muting it. I haven't used Unitrunker in a while so I'm not sure.
Good luck.
