Hey guys,

Just wondering what are the differences between the UBCD996T and the BCD996T apart from the market?

For where I live we don't have frequencies in the trunking database (freescan) available as all our police freq are on the conventional database and run in the 450-490MHz range baring between standard uhf and P25 digital groups. My question is, since I believe I don't have to use the Motorola type 2 system am I able to import a BCD996T and use it easily. I'm told it doesn't have the upper bands of 800MHz system Australia use, is this correct?

Thanks in advance

The U stands for Universal. The Cellular gap is not there and the bandplans are different. Also the firmware is not compatible between models.

It would work in some bands. Others would not work and some would be blocked.

Better off getting the model made for your area.

Actually, U stands for Uniden. It is the model naming scheme Uniden Australia uses for their products. The scanner might/might not work for you. Uniden America can provide no firmware support for that model (but we could repair it).
