I have had several trunking scanners from the the BCD 996t and the 996xt, The GRE 600 and the GRE PSR 800 and a newly bought Radio Shack - PRO 106 which is made by GRE.

Hands down the GRE PSR 500 and the PRO 106 are the best home and mobile scanner out there on the market for me. I have had a lot of digital transmission problems with the Undien scanners and their firmware updates are just not fixing the problems. I think its a hardware issue that needs to be fixed internally with some newer models. Uniden has just fell in the back seat with their scanners and have just not put a lot of effort on perfecting their models. Just my opinion.

My new Pro 106 has no digital transmission problems. Clear as a whistle. I have no battery problems like I did on the GRE PSR 800. I spent alot of money on POWEREX batteries for the PSR 800 and this unit would just keep eating up the batteries. A big serious problem. Also traveling in the car the receiver had alot of issues with listening the trunking systems and hearing a clear transmission. Alot of noise.

With the PRO 106 I can put a fresh set of POWEREX batteries in the unit and it will run for days with the lights and everything running great. No more worries about batteries and traveling is no issue either. The speaker is awesome and it is clear and loud with a squelch and volume knob which I like. It does come bare bones. No batteries and no A/C power cord which is a weird thing. All other scanners I have bought have come with power cords. The PSR 800 and the PRO 106 did not come with batteries nor A/C cord.

I also researched before I bought the Pro 106 with and also looked at the GRE 500 and the GRE 500 speaker was cheap and did not like the audio output on it. The PRO 106 scanner makers did it right on making a very detailed owners manual which is thick with a lot of information. The PSR 800 came with nothing. Weird how GRE makes the PSR 800 and the Radio Shack PRO 106 and Radio Shack scanner came with an awesome owners manual. You dont have to search high and low for information on the internet. I do use the ARC-XT software which is compatible with the PSR 600 and the PRO 106. Also the programming cable does not come with the PRO 106 either. But on the good side the programming cable that came with the PSR 600 work just fine with the PRO 106.

I took all of my scanners which were the BCD 996 XT and the BCD 396XT and the PSR 800 and sold them immediately on Ebay and moved on and now have the GRE 600 and the PRO 106 and have not looked back. Just thought I would write up my thoughts on different radios that I have purchased in the past and I understand everybodies elses needs are different.
