Here in Edmonton .. there is lots of ProVoice in use. It's like we are now restricted to listening to the dispatch channels for law enforcement. The Overtime Bar incident kind of took care of any other channels that previously were analog and could be listened to on a scanner. Now we have the 4 talkgroups (dispatch channels) as well as EMS and Fire as there is no need to go digital for these (at least for now).

Yup, and the Dumb Assess at the Sun Media and others still don't get it do they. I often say that because of the media continuously getting in the faces of the Police , Fire and other Emo services, this just gives them more ammunition to push for full time encryption.

I say this because I really think the media handled this very badly there. You had to know that the move above was coming after that incident.

The WORST people for this in Edmonton used to be the A Channel goofs driving around with their BC245 scanners. The concept of discretion just did not exist with this crew. Most of them seemed to be work experience students from the NAIT tv program brown nosing for jobs, so they would drive around in those A Channel SUVs with their low end digital beta cams and a scanner, and get in the face of every car crash, cat fight, drunk dude and personal robbery call out there. I have no idea if they are any more restrained and have a better corporate policy now that they are CITY-TV.

A good example of this MORONIC LOSER mentality was when police found a car stolen from some local minor celebrity here. The police had set up on it a block or so away with the eye to try and nab whomever had dropped it there. The A-Channel shooter kids obviously heard this on their scanner, and actually came to the scene and set up a camera on a tripod BETWEEN the cops and the stolen car with the camera trained on the car... ?!?!? Yikes.

When things like this happen, it's amazing the whole system is not encrypted the next day.
