What is the difference between the Comet DS-150S, Diamond D130J and the Radio Shack 20-043 Discone Antenna's. I currently use the one from Radio Shack. Looking for anything better for 700 and 800 mhz bands. I also have a Yagi 800. Would like more omni directional.

I have great reception from the RS 20-043, Pull in stations and mobiles from 60 mi away with no problem, the only shortfall of it is 800mhz but that is to be expected with a discone..Hoser

Discones do not perform well in the 800 MHz band(s). If the 800 MHz signal is strong, it will work as well as any other antenna. Having said that, I use a Discone as my primary scanning antenna (hooked to a Stridsberg Multicoupler). I have no complaints. But then again, I am not trying to pull in distant/weak 800 MHz signals.

Speaking from experience, the Diamond Discone antenna is HANDS DOWN better than the Radio Shack Discone in terms of construction and durability. It does cost more than the Radio Shack version, but if you’re going to buy a Discone, it is well worth the extra $$$.

They AREN'T all basically the same, and your own post kinda points that out. I've had excellent results with some commercial grade discones up past 1300 mhz, but based on another thread a week or so ago, some of the hobby grade discones seem to fall far short at the high range.

Yes, I phrased that wrong,,Meant to say that those 3 antennas are of the same basis Design....
