So I'm casually looking for another 2m/70cm analog-only mobile rig for the vehicle and I'm not feeling the current offerings from Yaesu at all. I would be very content with a FT-7900r or another FT-8800r <-- love this radio.

So I was wanting to ask, is anyone seeing these discontinued models still available for purchase new at hamfests these days? HamCation in Orlando is coming up and I'll gladly make the drive if I knew a vendor still had inventory of them...

Highly unlikely that any amateur radio dealer still has stock of radios that have been discontinued. Once a product is discontinued, the dealers make every effort to clear out old stock. This is especially true of they bought their stock on credit. If a dealer still has a discontinued radio, they would probably try to sell it as soon as possible and not hold it for a hamfest.

If you happen to see "new" copies of discontinued radios for sale, be very suspicious. They may be knock-offs of questionable quality.

It's certainly possible that someone purchased a (legit) 7900 or 8800 new and for some reason squirreled it away in a closet or became an SK before installing it. It ends up today at an estate sale, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I still have an 8800 installed in my daily driver vehicle.

Yeah go search for "FT-7900R" on eBay. You'll find lots of brand-new "Yaesu" FT-7900s for sale. Which I am sure are not.
THOSE NEW 7900'S ARE BRAND NEW.....CHICOM KNOCK OFFS. I BOUGHT ONE EXTRA CHEAP TO CHECK OUT.
SURE, IT'S WORKS, BUT IT HAS A "N" CONNECTOR AND CAN ONLY BE PROGRAMMED BY HAND.

IF YOUR OK WITH THAT... GO FOR IT.

I am also looking for a brand new FT-7900R. I can find them on Aliexpress. I believe these are indeed Yaesu radios but the export version.
Any problems programming these radios? Cannot find them new in the US. Am I asking for problems? The units I looked at do not have N connectors. N connectors are not an issue, quite common outside US. The radio I see is not cheap still around $200. Let me know what you think. Thanks PS. I could also find ICOM IC-2300H new.

Yaesu no longer produces the FT-7900. If you are seeing FT-7900s on Aliexpress, they are most likely cheap, Chinese knock-offs.
Cannot find them new in the US.
Because Yaesu no longer builds them or imports them to the U.S.
Am I asking for problems?
You probably will not be able to get any product support or warranty service through Yaesu USA.
I could also find ICOM IC-2300H new.
Probably also a cheap, Chinese knock-off.
