Ok - apparently lady luck was on my side - Mine wasn't deflecting as much as Rich's on the 22000 sample rate / 3600 symbol rate because I wired it to the WRONG tap point! It was hooked up to the RSSI that shows on the board. Oh boy. I'm thankful it still works.

Tapped DISC this time. Now results look _exactly_ the same as Dave's results. I'm not so sure it is a sound card kind of problem. Remember, I can feed the audio directly out of my headphones and get 50% + copy on Moto systems. I'm guessing something isn't coming off of that tap that should - or its not a strong enough signal?

I'm not going to post screenshots because my screenshots look _exactly_ like Dave's do for all symbol/sample rates that he tested.

Now - if I unplug from the discriminator and plug into the headphone jack - I see reasonable deflection at all symbol/sample rates.

Update: Dave - Forget looking at results using Uniscope right now. I just decided to try Unitrunker regardless of Uniscope only showing deflection at 22000 rate.

EDACS and Moto 100% decode.

Where are my manners...

Dave: Sorry for calling you Rich. And thanks for inspiring me to go ahead and bite the bullet and tap my 996.

Slicer: Thanks for all your assist. It's working fine, 100% decode on Moto and EDACS.

NOTE: Uniscope still only shows deflection with the 22000 sample rate... not sure what is up with that. But when I fire up Unitrunker it's working - so I don't think there is a problem with my tap (and quite possibly no problem with Dave's tap).

I'm also willing to test anything if you think something needs done in Uniscope to make it show proper.

Again, I'm grateful guys.

I will try shorting the cap to see what happens before making any changes, but I'm pretty sure I've installed it with the wrong polarity. No worries, I have a spare.

I'll report back later today when the testing is done.

Also, any word on a beta 7? I've been reading in the other thread about stability problems with UniTrunker beta 6, so I also plan to roll back to beta 5 today.

The only problems I have had with crashing were when I first started monitoring an EDACS system and would try to insert a site or system (I forget which) and it would crash every time. But I believe that if I waited for it to populate the site when it found a new one and then edited the site/system, there was no problem. If I can reproduce it I'll let you know what I was doing when it was crashing. Was the first time in two weeks that I had a crash problem.

OK, I've revised my 996's discriminator tap. The first thing I discovered was that I had made a stoooopid wiring error the first time around. I connected the tap line to the wrong tab on the audio jack, so it was being disconnected when the plug was inserted! While fixing that, I also reversed the capacitor so the positive leg is toward the scanner's discriminator, and added a chassis ground to the jack.

Now that I've done this, Uniscope sees all kinds of signal on the line! However, UniTrunker beta 6 shows "no signal" at the same time.

Check the sample rate Unitrunker is set to...try lowering it.

OK, I got it working (beta 5, that is). The sample rate is set to 44100. Thanks to all for the help. Now to the UniTrunker thread for other questions....
