I know they had suspended Op's due to the weather and so far we have received a quarter of an inch of rain here in Portsmouth, hopefully it helps put this fire out.

There was very heavy smoke this afternoon in Portsmouth, I heard the ICP issue weather advisory on the Ops Channel. Hopefully something will help. 6,100 acres so far and growng. The wind sure isn't helping though.

the main line run the north end of the swamp close to 58 and the n& w rail lines

Dominion Power covers Dare County right? When I was a kid in the 60s and we rented a house in Nags Head, there was almost nothing there except the Wright Brothers site. Now looked at it! Well so much for reminiscing, we have a serious drought on our hands.

Dominion Power might have been there to help get power for emergency lighting or generators??? Just a guess. Dismal Swamp is just a huge swamp and its VERY dark at night.

According to the news reports from the PAO last week it would take 6 inches of rain for days to soak the fire down. The rain yesterday did not make a dent in the fire (according to what I heard on the scanner).

Command repeater

I think the command repeater is 169.7875, based on NIIFC channel lists I have. I cannot discern much of a difference in signal strength between 169.7875 and 169.785 from my location in Norfolk, VA, so it might not matter which you have programmed.

I just sent a request to stream the command channel, since I can hear it pretty clearly here in Norfolk, even with a regular stock telescoping antenna. It should come in pretty clear with the outside antenna.

Does anyone know of any repeated channels or air channels that I might be able to be received this far out? If so I'll add those to the stream.

Thanks,
Jason

169.200 is another channel (Tac I suppose) and 123.075 has Air Ops. I hear those well in Portsmouth on my Dual Band HT

169.2 in Dismal Swamp

Was the simplex or did it sound like a repeater?

Also you mentioned I think 168.075 putting down pipe (to fill the ditches) is it simplex or a repeater?

I might have to come back to Suffolk if they are simplex.

Thanks

Richard in Chowan County

168.075 did not sound like repeater do not hear the traffic on any of the other freq. and it is very low audio i am only about maybe 5 or 10 air miles from the swamp
169.200 heard more traffic comes up air control most of what heard on this freq you hear rebroadcast on the air freq.
169.785 sounds to be the main control but you do hear units calling it a repeater or a different channel think this coming from different units in the field
