ProScan: distorted mic audio

I just got my computer back from the shop. After I set proscan back up, I plugged the same aux cable into both the record jack on the scanner, and the mic jack on my pc, and the audio is very distorted for some reason, I didnt have this problem before. I have a tower desktop. I've swapped the aux cord between the front mic jack and the back one, I already checked if I plugged it into the record jack, took out and reinserted the aux cable, and I even swapped it with a different one. Nothing changed whatsoever. What do you think the cause is and how do I fix it?

Exactly what did the "shop" do to the computer? If operating system was reloaded or updated, you may have the wrong or basic sound drivers installed or drivers need updated.

they did have to reinstall the OS because I had them install two SSDs in a split system style, doesn't sound like a bad explaination.

What kind of Scanner do you have connected to this computer?
Using Mic Audio is very touchy and the gains have to be set.
Line out on a BCD996P2 is very different from a Speaker Audio Output from a SDS200 connected to Mic Audio Inputs.

The record jack. yes.

When I have tried to do that I had to use a Ground Fault Isolator. Keep setting input settings lower and output higher in the Proscan Settings.

Lower the mic level. in the Win Mixer. In ProScan, click the Windows Mixer button. That will bring up the classic mixer. Right click on the mic and select properties then lower the level. First tune the scanner to a constant audio signal such as weather.

I got around to trying this and noticed my microphone boost was the same as the one in this picture. I lowered it and my audio is back to normal.
