    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

DLR audio improvement

I own a fleet of DLR1060 radios and a fleet of DTR650 radios and I have them all working with each other. I found a way to improve the DLR audio. I've noticed heavily distorted receive audio on the DLRs in certain situations and it's still distorted after turning the volume down on receiving DLRs. The DLRs don't process the digital audio as well as the DTRs do. When a person climbs up on the microphone on a DLR, the audio can be very distorted out of receiving DLRs but still sounds OK on the DTRs. The distortion is still there even if you turn the volume way down on receiving DLRs. It's some strange DLR behavior that doesn't happen in the DTRs. Given that it happens at low volume levels and whatever the volume is set at, it doesn't appear to be due to the DLR's 0.75W audio output compared to the DTR's' 1W output and the DLR's smaller speaker. It sounds like the audio processing on the receive side could be improved in the DLRs.

I don't think it's a DLR mic gain issue and I have already played with that. The DLR transmitted audio is good coming out of a DTR so I think it's an issue in the DLR receive audio path. Hopefully Motorola will improve it through a firmware update. I'm using my DLRs at the default (medium) mic gain setting.

I found an easy fix to improve the DLR's transmit audio so it sounds better and distorts less on receiving DLRs and sounds great on DTRs. Enable the Treble Boost option in the CPS so the DLR transmitted audio has more treble to it. The received audio on another DLR might sound slightly tinny and less full range but it does sound more crisp and distorts much less. The treble boosted audio from a DLR sounds good on a receiving DTR and maybe slightly better than a DTR talking to another DTR.

The DLR treble boost option is labeled TREBLE on the ADVANCED page in the DLR programming in the CPS.
