Update

More tech traffic today on the Mount Nebo site (known as South Roseburg in the database section). All was in the clear, sounded very nice and clear and has a squawk at the end of all transmissions. Also, they are now transmitting ctcss tone 110.9.

I have just entered the frequencies and scan them. A ctcss tone 110.9 is now used on all the channels I have heard talking. So far, only have heard radio techs talking and no regular traffic. It also appears to be single site transmissions only at this time. Hopefully they will be countywide when up and running regular traffic.

Update on new systems

Latest news....The vhf portion of the new system is to be turned on within the next couple of weeks. The uhf trunked system still is being installed and some sites will have to wait for better weather.
The vhf system is to be for police, fire, medical and seach & rescue. The uhf trunked system is to be for public works, jail, parks and health services. The transition is to go slowly, they expect some problems because of it being so complex and the total cost now tops nine million dollars.

Nine million so far?

Well, it IS an MPT1327 system.

Strange they didn't decide on a different format. Getting parts/support has gotta be a real pain in the you know what.

I wonder who the low bidder was!

Everythings Better in Douglas County

A lot of their ideas for the communications update are puzzling. The mobile computers (MDC) are usually frozen or are unable to log on. They buy mpt1327 instead of other more widely used systems in the state. Then after all this, the police and fire are still vhf ?. I guess it was important to have public works on a trunked system. Maybe someone misunderstood dump truck and thought they needed trunked. Just the vhf portion of the upgrade would have been enough for the area. But what good is just buying site upgrades and additions without replaceing ever mobile and handheld radio. Although, they had help from the feds with their narrowband replacement requirement. So they can blame them for some of the need for new equipment. You have to love the government.

They almost always use motorola and thats why I fell off my chair when they went mpt1327. The Sheriff Tactical Team uses digital portables bought through a City of Portland radio contract (unknown brand). The Sheriffs Department also recently bought some Motorola HT 1250 portable radios. The D.I.N.T. (drug) team can also use encryption when they want to turn it on.

The new vhf system is to start up within the next few weeks. You may not notice anything but a stronger signal because they are using the same output frequencies for law, fire and sar. A paging channel will be on 152.6600 on the new system. Radio techs have been on this channel talking while working on the new system.
The new uhf trunking system still has several sites to be installed and will not be on for some time.

Can anyone in the Douglas County area confirm the type of trunked system they are installing. My radio says LT system when doing a search, yet someone said they thought it was MPT-1327?. Does LT system mean LTR, I am new to trunking. I have a uniden 396T scanner.

After some further work on the system by techs (maybe fine tuning), it no longer shows up like this on my radio.

Not sure if they know when it will be on. They keep saying just a couple of more weeks. The original time it was to be finished (according to county officials in a newspaper article) was over two years ago. I am beginning to think they got in over their heads and it is taking a lot longer than they were told by those putting it all in.
The uhf trunked system is still incomplete and what is on, seems to be full of problems. The vhf system is supposed to be nearly complete, but never starts up?. One problem appears to be getting the various sites to all work together and not interfere with each other. I heard a lot a echoing on 152.6600 for a long time. It seems that has been worked out now, but areas still have dead spots. I am not sure what 152.6600 is going to be used for in the new system. It is listed as a paging channel. Yet, they are talking on it and it is a tx/rx with 157.8600 as the input. I can't find any fcc record for this channel and I have heard them call it an interop channel as well.
I have heard techs mention several times that they are finding equipment that was either not completely wired up or were missing parts after being installed. I heard them mention one day to that something had been dropped in shipping and they found several broken solder points after not being able to get it to work. Appearently some or all were delivered and setup by one group and other techs are trying to make it work.
The DFPA is supposed to be putting some equipment on several of the new sites. I have not heard any activity to suggest work going on with that part of the update.
The last "official" update was that the vhf system would start coming on in about three weeks. That report was about a month ago?.
