This is true, TDMA+E
The new TGs are patched, they go like this 1006 is now 2006, its patched as of now, but they are PHASE 2 + AES.

Will the conventional UHF channels also be encrypted, or will they go silent with all communications going to AZWINS?

John, I just tuned into the AZWINS, and the UHF and ALL districts were clear. I also went to DPS PIO website and there is NOTHING mentioned about this matter.

When they do go encrypted all will be on AZWINS and UHF will be gone.

Well when they switch there won't be much left for me to hear. I still have some local cities and Rural Metro Fire I pickup from my house.

As of now ( besides DPS ) the following PD’s are still in the clear
- Glendale
- Chandler
- Gilbert
- Peoria
- Phoenix PD
- MCSO
I’m sure there’s some I’m missing. Even out of those listed above only seldom do you hear anything since a lot of departments are using the “E” channels for a lot of traffic now. I hardly hear anything from Chandler or Phoenix that much. MCSO and Gilbert are pretty regularly in the clear as is Glendale and Peoria.

All have at least their dispatch channels in the clear. Some do switch traffic to an encrypted tac channel immediately after broadcasting the call in the clear.

Tucson and Sierra Vista have the new numbering talkgroup ID's. Patch them all and test as they go and then pull the switch all on a Monday morning. UHF will be all gone and is almost gone anyways. Most DPS mobile and portables are all on AZ-WINS except for areas of Mohove County and stuff. But more sites will be added and are already happening in Northern and Southern Part of The State of Arizona.
Thought maybe another two years out but most likely year end will be all done and gone. Enjoy the good old days and that's it and over with. Cal CHP same way. TE all down the board and that's it.
As you can see there is a new numbering system for the TE talk groups. Have them both working and then flip the switch one day and then clean more stuff up with OTAP and OTAR as time continues. Most mobiles with be APX 6500 or 7500's. Portables most likely with be Motorola N70 with SmartConnect with LTE for dead spots. If this is happening so fast money is coming in for swapping out radios and going LTE and going N series for sure. That's it and its been a great ride.

They’ve been all switching to the NEXT radios. Still some 8000’s floating around out there as well. UHF is plenty active in PHX ( East West and Central are all yapping all day long on the UHF system ). South disappeared and merged with East.
