DSP going to Full Time Encryption

ADP is free. AES 256 is not. ADP is the standard encryption in every Motorola APX radio sold.

Right, but ADP is not the recommended encryption protocol for law enforcement. APX1000 cannot do AES256, and I assume that DSP would specify AES256 for their subscribers and any local department that would want to interoperate directly. Then again, the DSP rushed into encryption before deploying the new statewide system, so maybe they are fine with ADP in the interim.

Are you sure about APX1000s, in terms of AES? TBH, I'm not sure what flavor of enc is being used on the Delaware system since it is still SmartZone, but will start moving to P25P1 in a year or two and I would assume it will be AES256.

My radio is APX6000 and from what I've seen almost all agencies carry the same and were required a few years ago to all go to those.

So I'm not sure the encryption. All I know is I flip an switch and I'm encrypted but there are Also permanently encrypted channels where no matter what mode your radio is in (clear of encrypted) it will always transmit encrypted.

Since you are there, can you see if one of the summer officers can show you their radio - that would half answer the mystery. Is the RBPD main channel still enc as someone reported a few days ago? It was not when Biden was there.

I don't work for RBPD. I work for a state agency.

Dewey isn't. I still hear them nightly both the seasonal and regular channels.

Dewey is probably more fun to listen to anyway. I worked there summers from 2005-2008 and it was always busy.

I was in the area on Sunday and saw that RBPD was showing as enc, although there was some activity on the Dewey Beach tg in the clear - some sort of records check. My last log of RBPD not being enc was on June 4th, which was the last time I was in town - and the day Biden was leaving.

Yeah they are encrypted. It was one of their full-time officers. The full-time and seasonal carry the same radios there. They are a 911 center so they get tons of funding.
Dewey doesn't have the money to afford radios for all their seasonal so they use DMR radios.

I live about 2 miles away from Dewey. I can hear seasonal dispatch but not mobile or vehicle.

However I can hear Regular Dispatch in the clear.
