I don't know what is considered as DX (depending one's location of course) i tend to think that being in Montreal quite a few states are not DX to me.
Different country certainly makes it DX. Maybe not very far in terms of distance, but a DX entity none the less.

Hummm......i would consider California DX but Vermont, Maine, New-York are prettu much in my backyard but all in USA. I would have expected DX as being a minimum amount of miles/Km

No matter how you define DX, the DX cluster only provides spots that someone else enters. For example, I might make a contact to Montana and not spot it as DX even though it might be DX for you.

The DX cluster is not a database of all contacts being made. It's a database of contacts that other hams have spotted.

DX is basically another country, regardless of the distance. I'm not terribly far from Mexico, for example, but Mexico is still a separate DX entity from the US...same with Canada.

On most DX clusters (if not all), you're going to be lumped in with North America, being in Canada. So if you select to display DX outside of NA, you are never going to see US states that show up on the cluster. So you will want to make sure that when you're using the cluster that you select to show "DX" within NA.

I was not talking about DX from DX cluster context. Lets take me as an example. I'm in Montreal, so a contact in let's say Vancouver would be considered DX for me (in a distance perspective) even though we are in the same country as opposed to a contact in Vermont that's about a 2 hours drive from my place even though it's in a different country. As suggested by @dimab, contact in another country is not necessarily a DX contact. I tend to associate DX as the distance between my QTH and the station i'm trying to reach.

You might, but nobody else does. I understand completely what you're saying, and don't disagree, but nothing in the awards world (if that's what you're into) considers it that way. Take DXCC, for example. Any contact to the US (even 100 miles away) is going to count for a DX contact to the US, and one of your 100 "countries."

Similarly, if somebody in Vancouver is calling CQ DX and you answer, they are likely to be very displeased with you, because Canada to Canada is not considered DX, regardless of the distance. For me, if somebody in Maine (2600 miles away) is calling CQ DX and I answer, same thing. Not going to have a happy camper on the other end.

DX = Another country

One of the reasons I obtained my amateur radio license was to specifically work DX stations. Even after 10+ years I am sure I have more DX contacts then U.S.A. operators and I even work the ARRL VHF contests. The ARRL Centennial probably got those numbers closer, but when I get someone in the U.S. answering my CQ DX, I mostly ignore them and if I acknowledge them I inform them what the DX means. Instead of guessing how many miles each person "thinks" DX would be, a different country makes it easy to remember.

I did hear an operator get butt hurt one time calling DX from USA and a Canada station answered. He wailed like a bit ***** and said DX meant other continents. As always, there are people listening and they keyed up and told him what was what.

Thanks for the explanation, i get that i did not understood the DX concept properly but it is very clear now. I'll know what to do on the next DX call that i see.

While reading on the internet i came across JTAlert. It integrates with JTDX and WSJT-X. Seems like a powerful filtering solution, I'll give it a try.
JTAlert is your friend!! If configured properly, you can just click on a station in JTAlert and WSJT-X will call it. It will also track stations you've already worked and mark them as "B4" so you don't get dupes.

I'm happy with it so far and it also integrates with Log4OM.
