Anyone know why the database was updated to show E. Rutherford PD as encrypted? I checked and they're in the clear as far as I know...

EDIT: Also I noticed Passaic County's Sheriff was updated to rebanded freqs but they're still operating on 866 at this time. Looks like someone submitted false information.

Sorry to let you know that the minute rebanding freqs. are issued does not mean that they change freq.
The fact that the freqs. were issued only allows the change to officially start. Both freqs. are licensed until the 866-868 channels are cleared.

Encryption does not have to be used full time and may only be used by certain units.
Another note; if it's digital it doesn't mean it's encrypted.

Bergen County PD trunk system with it's IP radios P25 will be digital and encrypted.

I was the admin who updated the two changes your wondering about.

If they are incorrect or wrong please submit a new change ticket, and one of us (probably me) will make the change back.

I just went through and fixed the channels in question - I was asked by another member to move encryption from East Rutherford - but to make a note that Rutherford is using encryption.

(I should have checked to see that there were 4-5 tickets correcting the PCSO channels first!)

Let me know if the encryption update is incorrect, and I'd be happy to make the swap (or just remove it completely).

Thanks,

Alex

I'll check on Rutherford PD, they are APCO-25 usually in the clear. Think I heard them last night in the clear. I'll monitor and see if they encrypt.

Just wondering if the person who posted the encryption part does not have a digital radio and thinks the digital is encryption?

I spoke to a person who is on the ERPD. They are not going to go digital or encrypted any time soon. They were tossing around the idea but it is just to much money now.

No Encryption on Rutherford PD's APCO 25 system. Been hearing them in the clear. Yesterday an officer was complaining of Radio trouble, saying he was not sure if HQ could hear him his radio reset itself.

Rutherford is not encrypted. They have their problems with the system too, mainly operator error or background noise. They spent a bunch of money to get this radio system for interoppability. With the old VHF system the FD, EMS and surrounding town were able to come up on their VHF channel and talk to them. To try to get them to answer some times on the FD, EMS or SPEN channel is impassable. So now all PD cars have a UHF and VHF radio. The FD and EMS spent big money to get UHF radios that can do digital. The only one who made out was Motorola. The PD could have gotten as good of coverage with there VHF system if they put in a repeater with some Seattle light receivers. But know one could talk to them.
