EBAY is a junk website anymore anyways. I hold they die a slow death. They charge too much to sell items like 12 percent and then another 3 percent to paypal for the transaction. What a joke. Then on top now charging tax. This is going to kill them

Zipscanners has only a 14 day return period. 15% restocking fee if you return something that isn't defective. They will pay shipping back if unit is defective.

Anyone spending $700 on a scanner should not be allowed buyers remorse, so I agree with restrictions returning units with nothing wrong with them. Places that do not do this, guess what ? They'll turn around and sell that used scanner as new, can't really have it both ways.

I believe this is a state by state thing. And if I can remember now, eBay was sending me emails and petitions about this. I have now been taxed on eBay for at least a month now. 30 cents here, a buck fifty there.. it all adds up and the state has more money to blow on stupid crap. Here in Colorado we also have a pot tax, but they want more and more money. In fact, the ballot this past week had like 4 amendments or what ever you call for tax increases. Thank God they were all shot down.

If the founding fathers were still alive today and saw how much we are taxed there would be a second revolution the likes of which no country had a revolution. Be it France, Russia or the U.S. We are fleeced!

As to eBay, I love eBay. I do a lot of my shopping there mostly because I can get things there cheaper and often times with free shipping with no crime, I mean Prime required from Amazon. And what gets me is that some of the crap I buy on eBay is shipped via Amazon! LOL My Bro told me what that was and now I can't remember, but I guess eBay doesn't allow that but it happens anyway. I really don't care so long as I get what I ordered and if it's via Amazon it often times comes super quick.

Nor do Alaska, Delaware, Montana and New Hampshire. Of the five, I could only live in Delaware or Oregon. The rest are too cold for me.

And I could have swore I saw the Texas governor on Twitter just last week say they state passed a bill for no state taxes.

Edit-

Yep, on income tax. Texas Voters Say Yes to Ban on State Income Tax

Nope, I am not returning my SDS-200 unless it comes used or has a defect. I know exactly what I want and I know this radio will have the HUM noise. So I will open up the radio and get the X Key tool out and do the surgery on the radio again like my other one and be done with the HUM noise. I know exactly what I am going to be getting and I am okay with it. But at least FREE shipping and NO TAX still.

Yep it sucks. The days of tax free on ebay are over. I'm a seller on there and they automatically charge my buyers the tax and collect it. At least we as sellers don't have to deal with it though, which is nice. You can still get scanners tax free from a few online shops who will absorb that for you.

I guess there is a huge problem with Amazon sellers and returns. The scam goes like this; my thingamajig broke but it looks good. I buy a new one online, wait a week, send my broken one back. This is why I secretly engrave everything I sell online. Amazon is very liberal with their return policy because they don't have anything to lose by demanding sellers accept all goods back.
Those states that don't charge a sales tax get their money one way or another, believe me. Any talk of abolishing the federal income tax and going to some kind af national sales tax will definitely screw the public. There's absolutely no way you're going to get ahead.

I don't understand why they're taxing person-to-person transactions. These have never been taxable, at least where I live.

Is it Ebay that's charging the sales tax or the seller? Last time I checked it was only certain sellers that were actually required to charge sales tax, not Ebay.

A lot of the sellers are actually brick & mortar stores selling new products. including Amazon.
I have purchased items just recently from individuals where tax is collected.

The tax collection is required by the City of San Jose, which is where eBay is headquartered. And I used to see two different charges when I purchased something: one for the item and any shipping and one for taxes. Now it's all combined into one.

I just sold something the other day and ebay charged the buyer (in CA) sales tax. It was a used item, but the buyer had to pay the tax.

I am in NC and when I bought a similar used item there was no sales tax. It depends on the state as to whether or not you have to pay the tax.

Essentially my bid would stay the same at $350 during checkout, but in a taxed state (example of 7%) they will have to pay $374.50.

My mom sells a lot on eBay and I don't recall her saying that she had to charge the tax. So it's eBay that takes care of it.

Like I mentioud before, this is a state by state thing. So write and call the bureaucrats.

What a travesty.

There is a fine distinction - eBay, and previously commercial sellers on eBay, 'collect' sales tax. Only a taxing authority such as exists in a state or a municipality may 'charge' sales tax. Currently eBay collects and processes sales taxes as required by law or regulation, no longer the seller's responsibility.

The collection of sales tax is (was) complex to navigate for a small internet-based business. Here in Ohio, there is a fixed-rate state-wide sales tax. Each of the 88 counties set a sales tax rate in addition to the state sales tax rate (the county sales tax rates vary by county). And then select municipalities and districts (e.g. public transportation authorities, zoos) have an additional sales tax rate. Ohio is a destination sales tax entity - i.e. the sales tax rate charged and collected is based on the purchaser's location versus the seller's location.

For non-eBay internet based sellers, the requirements vary by state. Most states who charge an internet based sales tax have a threshold (e.g. sales $ amount, # or transactions related to sales to customers within their jurisdiction) or a nexus requirement before a seller is required to collect and submit said sales tax.

Change is the only constant in life.

Here and there
Inevitable that most states tax online sales or find ways to adhere laws for it. Facebook sales, other online apps are gonna be hit with what theyou are saying. No shock. It was a inevitable thing.
