Was not sure if to put this in the local or trunk. Not sure if this is normal operation or not.

I just programmed in the channels for the Gadsden EDACS system. I ignored channel 200 and started on channel 201 and did all 10 freq for Gadsden. Now, every time I hear a transmission, I hear 2-5 beeps at the end of each person talking.

Is this normal or have I done something wrong? I apologize in advance if this should have gone in the trunking forum.

Oh yeah, do I have to program in all the talkgroups for it to show which talkgroup is talking? I figured it would show the talkgroup ID in OPEN mode, just not the specific text tags that you would normally enter.

Sounds like you have the frequencies set to conventional not EDACS. As for the talk groups if you leave your scanner in open mode you will see the talk group ID Numbers.

Thanks guys. I set the bank up on EDACS, but had the freqs set up on AM. Setting them to ED fixed my problem except one thing, when it shows a ED: 0204 (or some channel) and I hear nothing, does that mean that I am just out of range to hear whatever is talking on that particular talkgroup?

That is why I love this place. So many helpful folks on here that step up and help those of us that Are just learning.

Since that was so easy. Got another question for you guys: I have a Pro-97 and the channel I have labeled as 911 on my Sportcat always does a 2 tone call prior to all FD calls. I was wondering what this was and it the 97 will decode those and tell me which FD they are calling to.

Your welcome for the help. As for the tone you hear when they dispach fire the is for the firefighters that carry pagers. Sorry to say your PRO 97 can't be set to only work with 1 set of tones or to decode them in any way.

ok, I was just wondering what that was, the dispatcher always calls out who she is dispatching to anyways. Just thought it might be a nice way to fill up those other channels that are sitting at 0.00000

Well, I decided to go down to Gadsden today and see how the ol 97 picked up and OMG, there is a ton of traffic down there on that system.

Can anyone recommend an antenna to hook up to the 97 while i am at home to pick up more of traffic? I have been looking at a Scantenna. You guys think that is too much for my scanner?
