Rules and Policies are for fools and merely suggestions for the wise. If you see a police officer shot in need of help. Do you pick up his radio and ask for help, or dance while he bleeds to death?

Ask the question this way, Do you pull out your UV5R that you have preprogrammed with all the public safety frequencies or do you use the radio in the patrol car to call for Help?

Not really a SHTF scenario but...anyways.. In my listening career Ive only once heard listening to a civilian on police radio one time. There was a pursuit and the civilians vehicle had been struck by the suspect and the perp ran off after the crash into the woods with an officer on foot in pursuit. The civilian went to the officers vehicle and found the radio and began casually saying he had been hit and the officer went after the guy in the woods. The other responding officers kept getting bonked as well as the officer in the woods on foot and dispatch had to keep telling the civilian to keep off the radio. They told him twice to stay off the radio after he kept transmitting. a traumatic situation for the civilian that couldn't control himself.

There is this pipe dream fetish many whackers have about talking on a "police radio" when they'll magically roll up on some cop getting his ass beat and they'll whip out their Bowelturd or illegally programmed trunking radio and save the day. More delusional fantasies from sick people who need mental help and so far from reality.

No real reason to use a radio you are not authorized to use when everyone has a cell phone and if you don't you can get a free Obama Phone and leave the radio traffic for the agency needing it and trying to use it.

Four very minor things with this whole thread....

1. With respect.... Most police are civilians.... Unless they have the equivalent of a Geneva convention ID card....

2. The part about rules being for fools... That sounds like a person that is going to end up in jail or badly hurt someday.

3. WHY does everyone call it a yellow vest... isn't it really green (lime green).

4. With the OP, the advertisement I've never seen before. Definite crazy people bating, I especially liked the part about talking for days without a recharge, on the other hand, how is this kind of advertisement very different from showing people how they can drive like a crazy person "on a closed course" while advertising sports cars?

Thanks

I hate to get so judgemental sounding here, but there ARE people with limited IQ's or common sense that have somehow deluded themselves into thinking that having a radio on them, with the speaker blaring out noise, somehow makes them "look cool" or something. Damn, it's just a radio, it's not magic and if you are one of those "special people" that have such a low self-esteem that a radio "does it" for you, well please seek help. If you really need to seek attention for yourself, dye your hair purple or something, but don't interfere with public service people doing their jobs, better yet, don't even think about it.

They would be better prepared with an old Saber. Pull it out and return the beating to the bad guy. Use the Chi-com radio to hack the STL and tell the press about the great adventure of helping the cops and getting sworn in as a special whacker deputie.

I find these kinds of conversations interesting.

Say you're standing in a parking lot way out in the toolies. Someone shows up, fires on the cop, fires on the cop's radio and disables it. There's also a whacker there with a Baofeng (that for some reason you know is programmed on the cop's repeater.) You're outside the range of any cell towers. Would you use the whacker's radio to talk to dispatch and get help.

Boil it down: would you break the law to save a life?

I do this with my Motorola APX but I do it around my house in my underwear. I feel cool. DOS is off for the full CopSounds™

Gotta love the blatantly obvious, fake reviews at the bottom of the page. The one stating the following definitely deserved a laugh:

"I have FEMA, National Guard, and all my local police and fire programmed".

This rule was put into effect before cellphones with the intention of allowing a person to use AMATURE RADIOS they were not licensed to use in an EMERGENCY. The rule is listed in the AMATURE SECTION which means it is intended for AMATURE USE not PUBLIC SAFETY.
I know BUT MY BAOFANG works there and it is not a LEGAL RADIO TO USE ON PUBLIC SAFETY it is LEGAL on AMATURE BANDS.
As a matter of fact an Armature Operator in our County has bought Rigs and put in the Hospital, 911 Dispatch Center, Local Law Enforcement Stations for use by Non-Licensed Operators during an Emergency.

This is a perfect example of whacker hopeful thinking. While not an impossible situation, the likelihood is so miniscule that it borders on nonexistent. It is the type of thinking that the advertiser is appealing to.

Is that a yes or a no?

For me that’s a no. It wouldn’t happen anyway.

If a MoP popped up on the radio talking to dispatch then they would become very confused. It would be far, far better to call the local emergency number on the phone and get well out of the way.

Besides all of that, someone in genuine distress or in a proper (ie: not confected) is rather unlikely to be “stuck on” for using a radio which they are not strictly permitted to in order to summon assistance but the situation you set out just won’t happen.
