"They are contacting Eagle Med."

From Bethany dispatch this morning in response to a helicopter request on a one-vehicle crash.

I'm assuming this is related to Mediflight closing OKC base but if there was a specific post on this I missed it.

EagleMed

Everyone that runs under the EMSA protocols got a memo stating that EagleMed is now the first choice for an air ambulance. If they are not available, EagleMed dispatch will contact the next closest bird.

Thanks for the answer. I knew there had to be official word somewhere. As it worked out, I don't think they ended up flying the patient out. I wasn't close enough to see, but radio traffic didn't indicate a landing.

Midwest Regional EMS is the same way. Eagle Med is first, next closest for us will be Mediflight out of Seminole. Its funny though because anytime anyone calls for a helicopter, they still have Mediflight stuck in their head.

I know what you mean! Calling in and saying "start me EagleMed" just doesn't feel right.

Mediflight does have a generic sound to it, like medical flight abrreviated.

I do sometimes still hear some traffic on 462.950, the Mediflight direct channel. If my memory is correct, that channel was once a GMRS channel and I believe we used it at my college for a repeater channel for REACT. Then I also remember that it was reassigned to medical only use when they shuffled the channels for the FRS rollout. Anyway the 462.950 repeater is still active in OKC although it has much less traffic now.

Sorry, you remember wrong.

462.9500 is Med 9 (Tac 9 in some areas). Part of the original Med Channels that were assigned as a block.

Med/Tac 10 is 462.975, then Med 1-8 are every 25 kHz. Mobile channels were up 5 Mhz Back in the day, many systems were set up for full duplex.

There were even portable channels 5 MHz *below* the base freq of Meds 2, 4, 6, and 8 so you could do a "double-hop" and maintain full-duplex.

There are now 12.5- and 6.25-kHz channels in the same space with labels like Med 11 and Med 101. See NIFOG, etc, for details.
