    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Encryption and repeater access

I have read that analog radios that utilize encryption are unable to pass a CTCSS (i.e. PL) tone for repeater access when in encrypted mode. I was wondering if that would still be the case for a XTS-3000 in analog mode?

I have seen some low cost repeater projects (i.e. repeater in an ammo-can) I would like to try, but I am not sure if I my XTS-3000 would be able to access the repeater if the repeater used a CTCSS or PL tone for access.

I don't want to try it on my local repeaters because they don't belong to me and are only for public use (i.e. encryption testing would not be welcome).

Go digital, many options, but Moto XTS3000's are pretty cheap. Buy a KVL and buy a Quantar repeater and you'll be golden going secure thru the repeater. It'll also give you great public service radios and quality that is much more robust than the purely ham or MURS type radios.
