A global toggle for encryption muting would be best. Then we'd have the option to at least know whether its occurring or not.

I'd prefer globel ignore. I don't want this scanner stopping on useless junk nor do I need to see or hear it.

Why not have the option, if possible? All those with your POV would have to do is "set it and forget it". Or, better yet, "Mute Encryption" should be defaulted to "On".

Skipping encryption is not mentioned in the manual, so I'd bet that encrypted talkgroups will sound just like they do on the Pro96.

Gre at least on Edacs here is skipping it.

Encrypted EDACS = ProVoice, and all scanners currently out skip ProVoice. That's not what we're talking about.

after several emails and calls to gre i was told last night by the gentleman who answers the phone that he called japan and the tec he talked to said the 500-600 WILL NOT MUTE OR SKIP P 25 ENCRYPTION but will mute SOME motorola encryption, and that there was no software to do so in the future. this is not a quote just what the gre representative told me. this sucks big time.

If it does not stop, then how will it know what is there?

On non-P25 systems it can tell with the status bit flag on the control channel. But again, the GRE line currently doesn't utilize the status bit.

Or, we can wait for the radios to be released and give it some time (and hope) to see if they release a firmware update to take care of that. Either way, it would be a nice feaure but it's not a deal-breaker for most people, especially those of us that use the current GRE line that doesn't mute it either. Before the latest Uniden models, none did!.

Thank goodness they still utilize the "lockout" on this new-fangled scanner ;>

I would like it to be silent but hope that it would say somewhere on the screen that your on a encrypted freq or id. That way I see how many freq's or id's are going that crappy route.
Like Walter mentioned above, there is lots of times that I hear encrypted channels in the clear so I don't want to lock those out.
Did I just make sense

Perfect sense Ron.
On fleetnet there is occasional 'in the clear' transmissions.
But when it is encrypted it is interesting to at least know what t/g is active even if you cannot hear it.

The PSR500 wasn't out when I posted - and I hear that will change...

Maybe i'm in the minority, but I want to see everything that is happening on a trunked system. I hope GRE DOESN'T change this. Now, for the first time, you can see ALL system talkgroup activity, instead of only what is analog. No longer do you have to use a computer based program like Unitrunker to see what you are missing. I've spent a lot of time reading and importing Unitrunker logs just to see which talkgroups on my local mixed analog and ProVoice system are digital and active, and now I don't have to do that anymore.

From playing with my '500 last night, its not hard to press Func L/OUT when a ProVoice talkgroup or I-Call appears, or store the talkgroup and go back and permanently lock it out. For a talkgroup that is only partially encrypted, use the temporary lockout feature.

GRE, if you have to change this feature, at least add an option to the firmware that will toggle the encryption or ProVoice audio pass through on or off. I for one definately want to be able to see what I am missing.

I'd rather lock out talkgroups then not see them at all! IMHO, completely removing this feature would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face!

But you can never hear ProVoice ever - so why does it matter? That sort of info sounds like something appropriate for a PC.
