Scott and Carver have separate 911 dispatch centers but operate on a shared subsystem of the ARMER system. Scott went encrypted so Carver used that as a reason they needed new encrypted radios - then once they started to upgrade to encryption capable radio the decision to move to full encryption came rather quickly.

That's where I got confused. I knew they were connected somehow.

Scott went encrypted so Carver used that as a reason they needed new encrypted radios - then once they started to upgrade to encryption capable radio the decision to move to full encryption came rather quickly.

And that's what I was trying to say but you were able to say it much better than me. lol. I would've used the word "excuse" instead of the word "reason". lol.

On a side note: I do know that Carver has been buying encryption capable radios for many years now. Any time a radio needed to be replaced, the county would replace it with a new radio capable of encryption. (as I'm sure all agencies do) once they had enough encryption capable radios for one division (investigations, lets say) they would turn on encryption for just that division. The idea was..... eventually they would have enough radios down the road to use encryption for most, if not all county radios. I was told this by a friend of mine (about 6 years ago) who is a Police sergeant at a nearby agency. Again, I'm sure this was the normal plan for most Police departments and Sheriff's offices all over the state. Nothing new. My point was..... Carver has been buying encryption capable radios LONG before Scott went fully encrypted.

Thanks again stmills for clarification. :)

I could be mistaken (I usually am) but I believe Carver county (or at least part of it) is dispatched by Scott county.... And Scott county is already encrypted. If that's the case, then it doesn't surprise me that Carver wants to "join the encryption club".
It sounds like law enforcement will become encrypted soon but not fire. Additionally, the Carver County Sheriffs Office dispatches for their deputies, the Chaska Police Department, and the 11 Fire Departments in the county.

No. Their radios are fully capable of encryption (ADP, DES, AES), and they each have encrypted talkgroups on their radios, but their main talkgroups have not transitioned. The sticking point may be voice pagers still being prevalent and the use of QCII tones. I am not 100% sure if you can send and receive QCII tones with an encryption layer. The Unication pagers are capable of AES256 encryption (DES-OFB currently being the primary algorithm in use on ARMER currently), but i am not sure if that ENC ability covers QCII tones or just monitoring. The newer generation Motorola APX mobiles and portables do have the ability to support QCII toning activation, which was an issue previously, but again, i am unsure if DES-OFB can carry a QCII tone. @ryolsen8 may know more as he is pretty proficient with Unication products and has also explored digital paging in his professional role.

Your reply is directly aimed at me because I mentioned That I would now be selling my Unication G4 as a result of Bloomington going encrypted. My post was directly related to the topic of this thread. The reason for my post was a result of Bloomington going encrypted. Not because I randomly decided to sell my G4.

But, I suppose rules are rules and ANY MENTION of selling anything is against the rules in the forums. Thank god you were here to catch it. Thank you.

Not directed at you at all. I had honestly forgotten that you posted that last night.

@Div106 was wondering about Fire migrating, I gave my analysis on why they probably won't migrate until Unication and Motorola make their QCII function well with AES256 or DES-OFB.
I was not referring to you or your post. I was referring to AK9R's post and that is why I quoted his post in my reply.
