What does it sound like? I'm just a bit out of range, but I thought it was DVP, sort of loud rushing white-noise sound? In that case you'd be out of luck. If it's simple frequency inversion, software might work. These days there are some tricks thrown in (rolling-code inversion) that would also mean out of luck.

Anyone on the U.S. side of the St. Lawrence River, don't pursue this as it is illegal under U.S. law.

I am just outside of the Brockville, in the township. Brockville Police Dept, use a Digital Encryption System, which a voice or frequency inversion program cannot unscramble, but where i am here, i can here canton, ny sherrif's dept and they do use speech inversoin, and there is a program on the net to decode that. Also, smithsfalls, and perth use it as well, Brockville really hasn't used it a lot, at all, they are off ops-secure, is what it is called in the brockville city police cars on there radios.

Perth 142.130 - Voice inversion always
Smithsfalls 142.305 - Voice inversion - rarely
Brockville 142.935 - V. I. rarely - can here them as plain as day, like a normal VHF signal. they rarely use it

I have Perth down as 142.125 not 142.130 but whatever. PL 131.8 also. And I've been able to listen to them in the clear at times. Not always are they using the voice inversion.

However, I've also have heard them with the inversion on, but the signal still coming through with the PL tone entered.

Brockville Police

Hi there, up untill yesterday I could hear the Brockville Police crystal clear with my BC 245xtl but today and part of yesterday all I hear is "martians" talking, wll thats what it soundsl like anyway it sounds like they are talking through a voice bok that muffles and babbles there voice although you can sometims make out what they are saying. Is there anyway to listen to them with this scanner if I can download the proper software for it?

Thanks
Matt

There's a program called invert.exe out there somewhere that will do the trick. I think the last place I saw it was on the Scanont group.

There are also some scanners on the market that are capable of listening to voice inversion, as well. I own a Yupiteru MVT-7300 which does a passable job with voice inversion on one of the services I regularly monitor.

On another note, anyone had any luck monitoring voice inversion comms with a Yaesu VX-10? Apparently, the 109 channel version has the voice inversion circuitry...

I don't know about the Yeasu, but the Alinco DJ-X2000 does an excellent job. It decodes so well that alot of times you can't even tell they are inverted. The DJ-X3 does a passable job as well.

Richster.

I was thinking of purchasing the DJ-X3, but the physical construction of the unit is so poor that it would barely last a week with me.

The MVT-7300 was much more solid and included some other features, so I can live with the fact that it doesn't do voice inversion perfectly.

Ya the DJ-X3 is not that sturdy. You were best to go with the Yupiter, because the X3 does not decode perfectly either. Plus getting used to a scanner with no direct entry keypad is a real pain.

The problem with voice inversion decoding is the softness in the modulation or the modulation output of the repeater being minimal or low with the inversion used, you would have to amplify some of the low frequencies with any software you would get to decode it.

millsdogg, I hate to tell you this buddy, but these questions (although good ones) show that you are in over your head. Most off the shelf scanners like the 895xlt have no provisions to accept software to be loaded into them.

The software that you are trying to use can only be done on a real computer via the sound card.

That's the answer I was looking for. No good for me in my big truck. Well, at least until I purchase a laptop.

Wow...someone resurrected a thread with millsdogg in it.

That takes me back...

Maybe later we can hold hands by the camp fire with a cup of hot chocolate and sing the Mickey Mouse song together.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Graeme !
