I have been using an end fed antenna for a few months with good success so today I decided to tidy things up a bit by removing excess feedline. I installed a new pl259 and measured a short between the center wire and the shield. I assumed I did something wrong so after a bit of cursing I cut it off and put my meter across the center conductor and shield, without any connector installed, and I measured 4 ohms. I installed another connector and things seem to be working despite the near short. Does anyone know if this is normal for an end fed antenna like this? Yes. The end fed antennas use an Un-Un (unbalanced to unbalanced) matching transformer and will show a DC short (or something really close to a short, like you are seeing).
Thank you for confirming. At first I thought I created a short when I installed the connector but the "short" in the cable without any connector installed made me wonder. I feel better.
