I've been thinking about getting a radio to monitor HF. Are Eton radios suitable for this task? I realize that there are as many answares to this question as there are people who will read this post.
I've also been looking at the Sangean 909. I would really like to get an Icom R-75, but for one thing, the price is more than what I want to pay and I think this may be more radon than I need.
I will primarily monitor MilAir.

Any suggestions and comments welcome.

Thanks,

Keep in mind that whatever portable you buy must be capable of SSB reception, or it won't work too well. The E10 was reviewed, albeit briefly, by Gayle Van Horn in the June 2005 MT, and since it doesn't appear to have SSB capability, that's out of the picture.
We have several resources on the Shortwave Wiki to help you make your decision. There are places - particularly RadioIntel - that have online reviews, and EHam has a section devoted to general coverage receivers (portables included). In addition, Passport to World Band Radio is a good reference point, although the schedules printed in that book are now a bit dated.
You can access the Wiki through the 'RR Wiki' in the toolbar. You need not register to view the pages, but if you want to make changes, a seperate (free) registration is required.

I listen to HF on a Kaito1103 and it is a great radio. It does do SSB. I have had the sangean ats 909 and I think the kaito is a lot better for recieving weak signals. The price of the kaito1103 is ALOT cheaper to. If you want alot of pretty features the 909 is great, if you want a radio that works and does it well for cheap the kaito cannot be beat.

Thanks for the input...between posting my original message and reading your replies I discovered that I probably would need a radio with SSB capability. I regularly follow the posts of Milcom area on QTH.NET. I started paying closer attention to the freqs that are being posted and noticed that a large portion were either USB or LSB.
So my search will continue. Thanks again for the replies and the tips. Hope that you all have a long and safe weekend....
