Not sure what you are expecting to hear. They commonly use IPADs for the dispatching of calls. They also still have a paging network. You will not commonly hear someone getting dispatched to wires down or to a crash involving a pole like a FD gets dispatched.
I just heard discussion regarding an incident in New Britain where the lineman was cancelled but the SOC Dispatcher gave him some additional info as he was cancelled. The most common traffic I have heard is when circuits are shut off or restored before or after work. They would call in to dispatch with the pole or circuit and what they are doing to shut off or restore the circuit. The dispatcher would read back the information and I am assuming they would be looking at a map or database that would confirm what needs to be closed or opened for the job.
Also, most multi site trunk systems will not transmit traffic on a site that has no one affiliated to the group at that site. Even a Site like Berlin (HQ) or Bloomfield (Alt HQ in Windsor) could have little traffic as distant sites can route information via fiber or microwave and not need to use the TRS sites near the HQs.
Last, staffing at Eversource power for line crews is minimal at best. Gone are the days of having 15-20 minute response times. Fewer crews means fewer radio users.
