Mic,

I bought 3 speakers off of ebay that really do sound great with my ham radios. Model SH2P4. Foreign made no name brands that I paid $6 each. Thet even have their own eham review. They are small, black w/mounting bracket and come with a 6 foot cord. They really do sound great. I use them everyday. I don't know if the guy I bought them from has anymore, but it's worth a look on ebay.
Check out the reviews at eham, some guys say that they sound better than the $100 comms. speakers they have.
Good Luck.

ssb_dxer,
Thanks I will explore that idea............

I would be very careful about using a scanner in a patrol vehicle! I have ruined two scanners (BC250 and a SC200) by using them in a patrol vehicle. My patrol vehicle has a 100 watt Motorola VHF-hi radio, and aparently the transmission power fried the front ends of both scanners. The scanners are at Uniden right now being repaired ($50 a piece). So if all of the sudden you seem to have lost sensitivity on your scanner, you will know what happened.

I wish there was some kind of solution for this!

MB,
I suppose a "LEAD BOX" might work but than what would you hera?????????

I use very low power transmitters so I would not have that problem but I is good you threw that out for the others who use the high power stuff..........

Hi Mouse and all,

"This is my own private scanner for my personal use so the radio shop will not have anything to do with it."
Well then, trot on down to the radio shop, scrounge a speaker and mount it yourself.

MB, his problem is a poor speaker, not a blown front end so the pair seems to be compatible.

Alright I could go out in the shed, (the big one with all the old radio parts in it), and grab one of the dozens of Motorola comm speakers that are there and use it.............

But what fun would that be????????

Forgive me if I am trying to help out this sagging economy buy buying a brand new shiney speaker.............

Hi again Mouse and bored by now,

"Alright I could go out in the shed, (the big one with all the old radio parts in it), and grab one of the dozens of Motorola comm speakers that are there and use it............."

Or you could ship that box to me.

"But what fun would that be????????"

Oh, I'll think of something.

"Forgive me if I am trying to help out this sagging economy buy buying a brand new shiney speaker............."

WHOSE economy, China, Japan or Taiwan? I'm not sure you should be forgiven, paying for something you can get for free is sacrelige! Well, whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad. Tell you what, I have heard your confession, now say ten Hail Yeasus and five Our Icoms and ship those speakers as sacrifice.

Yeah, you need spelling lessons, it's "shiny". (;->)

My vote, especially for the value (regardless of who actually makes them) is the Motorola "branded" two-way radio external speaker. However, as someone said in an earlier post, most of the speaker's effectiveness lies in where it is mounted. Mine's high on the driver's side b-pillar. With the BC780 at 1/2 volume, I can do 80 on the interstate (or in the school zone  ) with both windows down and hear everything coming out of the speaker just fine.

I hate to think that I'm giving Radio Shack a plug for a product since I'm anti-Radio Shack, but I guess I am. I don't go into Radio Shack's anymore unless it's an emergency and I haven't had any emergencies in a long time.

The #21-541 speaker sells for $30.99 and is a very good external speaker.

I need an ext speaker to use in the patrol vehicle as I always have the drivers window open. I went to R.S. and plugged in one of those mini speakers and it wasn't as loud or clear as the speaker in my PRO-96. An amp. speaker is not practical in the patrol vehicle due to the ext wiring.

Guess I will have to keep looking............

I use those computer speakers that have an amplifier in them and have their own battery supply in the speakers. They are loud and clear but it must be an amplified one with its own batteries.

I solved my problem.........

I have a cassette in the vehicle so I bought a RS CD to Cassette Adapter (12-1999) and tried it.

All I can say is WOW. Good, crisp, clear, loud audio.

Thanks for all the input..........
