Wondering about getting an external mic for my Yaesu FT60. The radio's PTT button is OK, but feels a little awkward. Any recommendations? I think Yaesu makes an "official" one, but are there any good third party options?

This is the Yaesu speaker/mic. I have one and it works well. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, there are less expensive Chinesium versions on the market. Sometimes, you get what you pay for.

The official one feels great but a known issue is the jack slides back out just a hair on it's own and causes the mic to key up. So you'll have an accidental HOT mic. I put a rubber band around it and that solved it...but it looks ugly.

Thanks, I don't mind paying a bit more if the quality is there, but the hot mic issue worries me a little. Are there any other ones that don't have this issue? Also, I guess I didn't realize that these are mic/speaker combo, so the sound comes out of it, too. Is the sound quality better than the built-in speaker on the HT itself?

If you're looking for good sound quality, Heil Sound makes a headset that is much better than either the built in speaker or a hand speaker/mic. The Heil headset is lightweight, comes in either single or double sided earphones and has the proper connector for the Yaesu HTs. I've had several of them and the only problem I discovered is it doesn't hold up to being run over by a pickup truck...
