External speakers

Does anyone have any good recommendations for external speakers for the TRX-2 and WS-1095. I'm using both in a mobile install and the factory speakers work decent but I need something with more volume. I've tried several options and it seams both the headphone jack on the front and the external speaker jack on the back are lacking.

Don't forget the AUX jack that so many new car radios have. Earphone or speaker audio into that input could provide you with more audio that you need.

Best Buy or Target have inexpensive, small cyclindrical wi-fi speakers that feature a 3.5mm audio jack. I own multiple for car and home use. Have served me well.

Here's what I use for my WS1095--an amplified Uniden BC23A... very powerful and loud, with no distortion.

I use the cheap Motorola HSN4031's, 8 ohm 7.5 watt, plenty of bass response for the Whistlers tiny audio.

I've used these quite a bit along side /\/\ and Vertex. Look familiar? Good for the price.

I use the Motorola 8 ohm HSN4018A speaker.

Isn't that a 3.2ohm 13watt speaker? I've had the Motorcycle speakers before...they add a rubber membrane across the speaker which attenuates treble and makes them sound muffled. The rubber membrane can be easily removed by taking apart the speaker, it's simply sandwiched between the front and back halves.

This was always my solution...put the speaker on the B pillar next to the driver's head.

I put speakers between the base of the driver's seat and b-post, and the seat and the console. (Dual band Kenwood, with a band to each speaker. The spatial separation helped with signal isolation.)

I've know exactly where you're coming from... and unless you're willing to move the speaker closer to your head--as several folks have sagely suggested--you'll never be happy with the sound from the WS1095 without going to an amplified solution. For my several Subaru applications, the side pillars and seat backs just weren't convenient for installation, so I went with amplified speakers. That made all the difference. I like the amplified Uniden BC23A just fine--given how easy it was to install. But my fave was the Moto amplified speaker that I used in the hatchback of my Subi Outback. Even with all the windows down--at highway speeds--the sound could blow you out of the car, if desired!

4 ohm would be bad for a lot of 8 ohm scanners, and the power rating of the speaker is what it can draw, but not what a scanners amp can produce.
