Interesting you noted they were all "Strapped for Encryption", yet the gentleman above can hear them.

Not saying they won't go Enc, just pointing out, they apparently weren't "strapped" before deployment.
My info came straight from the 911 director when we inquired about IDs for cross programming. We've been adding these to our new codeplugs. That is what she told our division chief. If I'm wrong, we were misinformed.

We're currently engaged in mass reprogramming. Every one of our radios has Fayette IDs assigned but not active in the codeplugs with placeholders as we haven't heard back from them on encryption key loading, etc. Obviously our south side agencies want their stuff for I/O, but they are in the midst of a turnup. I know how that is and am not going to bother them during this period. I am sure they will put something out to mutual aid partners in the future and we will go from there.

They did purchase AES-256. If they choose not to utilize it, that is their decision. I have no dog in their fight.

Your information is correct EB. I spoke with KV two weeks ago.

Happy Thanksgiving EB. 73
You gotta let me know how this new JVC Kenwood sounds. Once I get the official fleet map from your folks, AS WE HAVE AUTHORIZATION (unlike someone in Colorado), we will start putting it Fulton radios as part of the IGA we signed last year.

This is the first JVC Kenwood simulcast P25 system in the state. Excited to see how coverage, audio quality, etc is compared to MSI and Harris. We do have some JVC Kenwood radios on our system, VP5000s and I have a VP6430. Very impressed with the quality of the subscriber.

What type of consoles are the dispatchers using?
mare they using star gate? If so would love to know how they sound. The system I’m working with they are having several issues with the console audio primarily the dispatcher mic. Lots of gain structure issues.

Moved to the area after living in Minnesota for a few years. Since Florida, Ferguson, and the Summer of Love podcast/scanning has opened my eyes of how ridiculous/disappointing journalism has become especially as a black male in my mid 30s. On a local level, scanning is the single most important thing into knowing what's going on in my community. Yes friends from different agencies tell funny stories but they don't want to talk about work constantly. Helps understand how traffic often lead to a lot more. That 911 call volume is a lot more than actual arrest made especially with crime stats. I'm not really into social media so I usually have music or a podcast playing with a scanner also. I have been waiting on this new system for years and enjoy it for now. The old one was rough especially at the end. One weird issue with new system is at PTC Home Depot parking lot my SDS completely loses signal.
Happy Thanksgiving y'all.

Any cell sites nearby? If there is, it may be saturating your SDS with overload. My SDS100 doesn't care for the band 14 that AT&T/FirstNet site up the street from me puts out. Whenever I am within eye shot of the stacks, my SDS loses 17D who's closest site is around 1 mile away.

As stated above by Joe and EB, they are working out some technical issues with the system currently. It is of my understanding that they will be fully encrypted with AES once everything is worked out. I spoke with the 911 director at the same event as Joe a few weeks ago. If you want to do system mapping for good measure, now is the time. This is not a new process every system does it. If you recall, Henry did this just a few years ago for a while (a few months) off and on to get the issues fixed with their Harris system. Now they are almost fully encrypted with AES along with Clayton and many others leaning that way.

I was hoping Clayton would consider de-encrypting now that victor hill is gone 🤔

Update on the new P25 radio system. I live in Fayette County and know many of the leaders involved in public safety. The new P25 system is live and has been since last month as noted in previous comments. As is the case with any large system deployment, they're continuing to work out the bugs. It's going to be a great system for our first responders and lots of people have been working hard to get this system online. It's public knowledge that the system was purchased with encryption capabilities, as that was even in the publicly released bid specs when the county purchased the system.

At this time (today is Thanksgiving 11/24/22) encryption has not been turned on. I suppose they want to work out the bugs first and that's a good plan. As per the request of the forum moderators, I'll refrain from expressing a personal point of view about encryption.

If you have an SDS100 or SDS200, it's pretty easy to setup your scanner to listen to the new system. Here's an excellent video I used to help me manually program the system -

To the best of my knowledge, the system is using the same frequencies as the previous radio system. Those frequencies are:

851.3750
851.6875
851.9000
851.9250
852.7500
852.9250
853.4625
853.9000
853.9250
853.9750

For those of you who are amateur radio operators, this new system sounds a lot like DSTAR to me. I do not have a list of the new talk groups, but have begun to monitor and make my own notes based on what I hear. For example, I believe TG 23 is the Fayette County Jail, based on references to pods and cells and TG 3 is FCSO Dispatch. TG 171 appears to be FCFD Dispatch. I will continue to monitor and update this thread as I can.

Hello,
I am using a Whistler TRX-1 and cannot hear anything based on their current update, system shows as P25 in Trunked Radion Info. On frequency sweep I do hear what I believe to be control channels but no voice audio. Any advice on what settings to change / verify?

Does anyone have any idea how to set this up on an BCD536HP? I'm using Proscan software. I had also heard some of the same things from personnel that I know from FC as well. I'll continue to play with it until I get it working. Thank you ki4ask!!

After consulting other forums I am experimenting with dwell times and have turned off all Attenuation and AGC and set DSP to 64. working somewhat, but transmissions clip.

Any further advice and mapping of Talk Groups would be awesome. Currently scanning the whole county on Wildcard, I am mostly interested in Peachtree City PD and FEMS.
