Federal Wiki Project 2010 -

Pulling data from the Database to Wiki using Wiki Extensions.

To give a better overview of the agency's data in the United States / Territories and Outlying Areas.

It will help other federal scanner enthusiasts without needing to open each county/state federal pages in the browser.

Some stuff couldn't be added. Since it's mixed in with other agency's frequencies on the database, or it was not in it's own "Sub-Category" for that agency.

The title above each data table will include the link to that "State"/"County"/"City" page where it came from.

Interesting start, Brian. Let's keep this rolling - if there are corrections to be made, place them in the wiki, then once there's enough there, get a ticket out to the DBAs.

One thing to add, however, and that's a refresh link at the bottom. This will allow the extensions to pull refreshed data from the database once it's added. What it does is it actually causes the wiki queue (it's very similar to the queue in your browser in the way it works) to be flushed, so the extensions can actually pull the data, instead of the page being fed from the wiki's queue.

Only 1 refresh link is needed for each page - you don't need one for each entry. See the bottom of this page for an example...

DC Sports - The RadioReference Wiki

Basically it's the URL of the page with ?action=purge at the end of it. The way we have it set up here, kept in small print, it's pretty much out of the way of the article, yet it's pretty easy to find.

Good job! 73 Mike

I live in the Chicago metro area and I am usually up pretty late with nothing to do please send me a email or personal message if there is anything that I could help with because your idea for the federal wiki pages is great and I am willing to help anyway I can. This Will be a very useful tool to those new to scanning and people like me who have been into it ahwile.

Thanks For Starting This Up,
Bob

Bri, there's a coding error in the refresh links. It's not

&action=purge it is

?action=purge

and I'd prefer that the refresh link stays at the bottom - that way it doesn't interfere with the flow of your article.

Interesting to see how much fed stuff we do have in the database. 73 Mike

Another suggestion I have is to include the " ; " before a state's name:

;Alabama
;Alaska
;etc.

So that a menu is automatically formed at the top of the wiki page so that you can immediately skip to a certain area (in your case a certain state) real quickly, without having to scroll through the whole page. In the Texas federal wiki (in progress) you can see my example. It is easy to get to a region of Texas, or an agency within a region, by clicking the link in the menu (no coding is necessary for the menu, it is automatically formed). See my example here.
