.... they also don't talk too much (likely use cell phones most of the time). They also have a talkgroup on Fleetnet, but again.. rarely used.

The Fire Marshall used to use 154.1900mhz for office communications but that was rare.

I remember the office in Hamilton using it back in the 1980's with the occasional encryption.

The College in Gravenhurst can be heard on it.

There's a Fleetnet talkgroup but that also sees little activity even with an office just down the road from me.

ah ok thanks for the help

The OFM might let you listen, but only if you spell his name correctly... :) :)

I recall operation on 154.070, not sure if it's still in use for that, and at
times encryption was used due to sensitivity of information during some
fire investigations.

I think the 154.070 freq has changed. Just heard Middlesex Co. Fire doing radio tests, and nothing was heard on it.

I'm sure somebody would have heard something since a change in the OFM frequency would involve reprogramming every fire radio in the province.

+1

As of 3 months ago (when we got some of our radios reprogrammed) it was still the standard OFM channel.

I have heard OFM used when there are 2 or 3 fire calls in the same county/district. Like a secondary channel. Or when 2 counties with different radio ops, use OFM to communicate at a county border fire.

Its like OPC with the OPP and city/local police.

For middlesex county fire, channel 2 is the OFM channel and they do testing on it alot.
So i guess its "in use" here but never herd THE OFM on it

You'll probably never hear the OFM on it.

Chances are they are on cellphones or satphones or less likely, their other frequency or Fleetnet.

Most County's have set aside a Countywide channel for mutual aid calls and the use of OFM is becoming less and less these days.

This is true. It's like a backup backup freq, I think I've used it for incidents maybe once or twice.

You may hear comms from units working near county border lines to a dispatch center on it since everyone is supposed to have it programmed in their radios. Usually where multiple agencies are responding.

OFC Gravenhurst checks their radios with Barrie everyday and so do some other comm centers on Sundays.

I'm here a lot
I have even heard it used, albeit rarely, as an announcement freq. to alert different departments of upcoming funerals for firefighters. :(

Yes I guess that could happen, to advise a neighbouring Comm Center.

Those usually go over the Ops frequency to the volunteers at the request of a senior officer.

A TAFL search shows 154.070 widely assigned all over Ontario, so
it may not get used much in some areas but it is still active.

You must have had some crappy signal at that moment.. I heard them testing on OFM all the time. Keep an ear tomorrow night.. most of the county departments like to do their radio tests with London on Monday night, and they will usually test all 3 channels. The only time I've heard OFM used around here is when things are super busy and the calls are stacked up. I also heard it used once when London sent an aerial truck out of the city on a mutual aid call.

Just because you didn't hear it doesn't mean it's changed.

How far are you away from the units testing?

This could be a low power fire ground channel and if your not close, you won't hear a thing.

I heard Barrie FS testing on OFM on Friday morning.

Do they actually identify Tac2 as OFM? Maybe they changed Tac2 to something else othern then OFM?
