If you are trying to do the CPU upgrade you have to turn the scanner off then press and hold the "PGM" button while turning the scanner back on. The display will read:
uP Boot Ver:F0.1
uP Appl Ver:F1.0
CPU SW Upgrade
Wait for PC/IF

Now you are set to receive the upgrade. If it doesn't work on COMM-1 then go to COMM-2 and try it again.

Restore

If I understand what you are trying to do you are not trying to restore firmware (CPU or DSP) but you want to put back the Vfolders you erased.

If that is the case then I would suggest if you do not already have, acquire either PSREdit or WIN500 software (you can try free) and load the vfolders back with the software, it will be a snap.

As to getting the com port, I have not used ME in years but make sure that the USB Port in your device manager aligns with the port in the software.

You may also need to install the driver for ME that is included on the CDROM with the radio.
