I am not so sure. At least one person following this thread has purchased a 5700D despite reading about your particular problems, and the inability to upgrade the Firmware without sending the Radio away, and the costs involved.

In another case on a Forum you and I both post in another person is seriously considering buying the Radio In his case because he believes it must be 'superior' to other Receivers just because of it high price (sigh). Perhaps a case of 'Never mind the quality, feel the width'.

I see evidence that your posts (and mine perhaps) are actually stimulating interest in the 5700D. Amazing as it may seem to me both of the above actually own the superb Icom IC-R8600 and an AOR AR-DV1 already, which when in combination turn into the 'super' device the 5700D 'should' have been. Both those Receivers can have their Firmware upgraded by the User too. Still their decision of course, but for me a far too expensive one given all the circumstances.

Good luck as always with your dilemma.
Well, you know how it starts off…. Something along the lines of. “My uncle bought a Ford car and had nothing but trouble with it, I’m not touching one!” And so the story goes on and on until eventually you start believing that every single Ford car is nothing but trouble!
And then there are those, and this is speaking from experience, the ones who have never had the experience of owning one, are the ones who know best AND create the biggest stink about something that ‘they know best.’
For the record: There really is no comparison between the AOR DV-1 and the 5700D. I mean, absolutely no comparison apart from being made by the same Company.

Mike I am very sorry that Admin will not let you join the AOR 5700D why I have no idea your need to take it up with them as I do not run the facebook group .

Regarding the problems with the 5700D I would love to say fantastic receive best I have ever had , But as we both know its not , When JIE first bought out the SX200 over 45 years ago it was full of problems and the front end was as wide as a barn door but it only cost £250 . Fair enough that was only a analogue receiver but it did not cost £4500 .

Why not buy a 5700D then you can see first hand for yourself why me and a few other owners are so put out . In hindsight I should have waited for 18 months before I bought mine but I bought mine within the first 3 months . Lets hope that all the new owners like Sigintel8600 + alanswebb have no problems I can only stress to you both make a note of all your problems and get it sorted before your warranty expires which brings me back to longer warranty since the radio has to be returned to Japan or your local importer for a firmware upgrade .

If your on facebook Sigintel8600 I should join the AOR 5700D group and the best of luck to you both and alanwebb .As for myself and the other owners some whos warrantys are about to expire next month it a big rush for them to get the fixed .

Yes, thanks for that. I know it’s not pleasant what you are experiencing and I do feel sorry for you. Perhaps I haven’t had the radio long enough for people to take my advice but it really is a ‘piece of work’ this radio.
No regrets, no worries, I do have a mind of my own to which I decided to buy, despite reading about problems. Whether the glass is half empty or half full, it’s still the same measure. Only you know what you really are capable of doing amidst complaints.

I just created an AOR 5700D Communications Receiver group on Facebook. You do not need to own a 5700D to join. Feel free to join.
Apparently not 'live' as yet, or at least not via my System? Just the 'exclusive' Group is appearing.

I understand what you mean, when you say, "There really is no comparison between the AOR DV-1 and the 5700D. I mean, absolutely no comparison apart from being made by the same Company."

But that is not a technical evaluation, that is more of a cliche which is common in English languages. I imagine some of us are interested in hearing from folks like SigIntel8600, who have the DV-1 and the 8600, to make a more objective, technical comparison.

Saying that there is "no comparison", while I completely believe your enthusiasm, is a bit too subjective.

Yes, you are right, but I never claimed it to be a technical evaluation. Just an observation. And for the record, I do have all three!E2A48783-31DB-4103-8FF9-4EEC3BC5EB7B.jpeg

Great setup. Maybe, after you've had a chance to use the 5700 for a week or two, you will be able to give some objective evaluation of your observations. There has to be some comparison you will be able to make between the 3 units. Incidentally, what kind of antenna(s) are you running for this setup ?

Will do, but right now I’m struggling for time in my life, hence the ‘no comparison’ remark.
Once things settle down I’ll have more time but keep in mind I’m not a technical person and use the hobby to listen and decode only.
Also regarding antenna, I’m in the process of ordering a Wellbrook ALA1530LN and a Bonito MegaLoop Fx both with rotation. I want each radio Icom and 5700d to have their own ears.
VHF is currently a discone, but looking to have a Diamond X510, dedicated marine and dedicated airband antenna. I’ve also ordered the accessory for the 5700d an antenna selectors with AS5700 as I don’t want to be unplugging and plugging back in aerials. The discone I have sits on the chimney and whistles like a kettle on heat in high winds. This resonates down the chimney and keeps me awake at night.

Well once again a great setup. Nor am I an astutely technical person. Been listening to receivers for the past 60+ years. And yes, time is the great enemy. Time and space. Regarding space--- I'm talking about space for antenna setups. I'm very limited in terms of what I can put up and where I can put it (although I'm sure some folks here will tell me exactly "where to put it")! LOL.

Time to give a chance for others who might want to chime in. Touch base once you get everything up and running.

HI everybody,
because for AR5700 does not exist any control software (except some prehistorical on windows 10 non functional original software for AR5001D) I have made easy control software. Right now it is made for receiver live control and user friendly access for functions, that they are complicated hidden in menu.

Because it is universal communications protocol, it should also work with AR5001D (AR2300) and (with very limited function) on older AOR receivers as well.

I am planning to integrate memory reading and programming inside, because original programming soft is one big disaster.

Enjoy this version 1.0
