• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I can’t tell a difference just yet. I switched them out in my truck so we shall see.
I’m assuming you got the newer QT60 Pro. If so there are some noticeable differences. Off the top of my head: VHF RX added. Dimmer added. Adjustable FM deviation added. Adjustable SSB TX bandwidth added. VFO mode added. CTCSS/DCS scanning added, and a few more things. Some items are only selectable/adjustable via the programming software, so make sure you hook it to a PC at some point and take a look. (y)

@jcrmadden first DIY bracket for DRX-901.

I’d want it slightly back and higher.

It’s difficult to convey the difference the right speaker can make when it’s in the right location.

When I’m trusting to the veracity of what I’m hearing in deciding to take this 39.5-ton combination vehicle off the Interstate onto a secondary route its due to the trustworthiness I detect in the other mans voice and phrasing.

I’m not in a position to wait . . the situation is worsening by the second. The decision involves plenty of following decisions (judgments) to be made. I’m making irreversible decisions as we speak.

Have the right equipment.

This level of clarity is astounding.

My Anytone AT-5000 arrived late today as I was heading out to dinner with some family. I got a little time with it this evening doing a basic checkout then the wide band mod. Its easier to use than my Stryker SR-84HPC made by Anytone in the same form factor which is a 40W AM/FM radio and its single multifunction knob is annoying. The AT-5000 has up/down buttons which default to ch or frequency selection leaving the multi knob to default in volume mode. That's a much better setup than the Stryker.

Power out after the mod was around 32W SSB and 10W dead key AM with 40W peak with a loud voice. I forgot what FM was but you can select wide or narrow FM which is much better than being stuck with just narrow as on some models. I got a quick radio check on SSB and the guy said it sounded great, which needs to be further tested and verified, but its way better than the guy saying it was terrible. Didn't have much time to run the receiver through any tests but it sounds fine and has an easy to enable clarifier for SSB.

This is a lot of radio in a tiny package and its not very expensive. Mine came from Amazon but it shipped in a brown truck instead of the usual Amazon way, so it took a full week. If you're reading this you must have some interest, so stop procrastinating and just buy it.

I spent more time with the new AT-5000 today and its a winner. Not the absolute best SSB CB I've had but certainly the best for the price and it has lots of great features. It made contacts all over the country and got great audio reports. The receive noise reduction works ok to the point I don't have to use squelch and it doesn't distort strong signals enough to worry about. One guy in Louisiana asked me what radio I was using and when I told him he said he's been on the fence about buying one and after hearing mine he is off to order his.

I need to try this in a vehicle as the channel up/down buttons on the mic and other easy to access buttons on the radio would make it a safe radio to operate while driving in my opinion.

do you have a Anytone 5555 N II or Radioddity QT-60 ?????
I was just wondering how they compared????
... the size looks great but the radio just seems like it's not as easy or as good as the QT-60 or the smaller QT-80... just curious

I have a 5555NII and it is a little better on receive and has more power on transmit but the 5000 sounds better on transmit using stock mics on both. I was using an external speaker on the 5000 due to its bottom facing speaker and having it sit flat on a shelf during testing. The 5555 sits in an angled mount which allows its speaker to face forward at an angle and that sounds great. I would say the internal speaker on the 5555 is also better. I have not tried them side by side but may do that later today.
