Hi all I just purchased this scanner and I've been trying to listen to my local PD, FD and CHP. I tried programming with Freescan but the only audio I get is through my counties EMS dispatch. This is my first scanner and would love some help. Im located in Santa Clara County, in Gilroy CA. Thanks!

Ask that your post be moved to the regional forums section, namely California. There’s got to be someone there that has a program that would include all you ask. Use their programming to set up your scanner. And once you do that, save it to your favorite programming software where you can study all the settings used to successfully capture what you seek. You should be able to discern what you were doing wrong.

Anything with an "TE" in the mode column is encrypted and no scanner can receive those.

The conventional frequencies appear in the clear.

Here's an "Easier to Read" manual for your scanner.

Good luck!
Have you determined that encryption is in fact used? And the designator for encryption is just the E, not TE. An upper case E designates full time encryption and a lower case e designates partial encryption. It could be that encryption is turned on only for the sensitive stuff or certain divisions of the agency are full time encrypted while others are not… or, a mixture of the two. (An agency may encrypt full time their SWAT units or detective divisions while leaving routine dispatches in the clear.)

Just remember that FreeScan can't support DMR or NXDN programming. Use ProScan or ARC-XT for that. BOth have a 30 day free trial
