Does anyone know the motorola digital system the FLA Highway Patrol is now using, and if there is currently a scanner that will listen? the system is NOT apco 25 and apco 25 scanners will not pick it up.

thanks -

The state of Florida is only using a Motorola system in a portion of the state. Some of the state is now EDACS ProVoice digital.

I was in south Florida in October and had excellent results picking up the state 800 Moto system with a Pro-96 (all through Miami area, southern Everglades, and Keys). FHP and FWC are busy.

The EDACS system cannot be monitored as nobody decodes ProVoice digital.

West Coast of Florida,Notrh Florida (Jacksonville) and Nothwest Florida are on the MaComm system that uses fulltime encryption on all talkgroups and ESK on the Control Channels.Southeast Florida up to Flagler County uses the old Motorola P-25 CAI system. They were suppose to be on the MA/Com System by now ,but they had some problems and that has been delayed.

Dumb question maybe, but as I saw the FHP pull over a car here in Panama City Beach today I was wondering how they communicate w/ the local police Motorala Type ll system without us hearing it?

If FHP communicates directly with the local police, it's probably on one of the national 800 MHz mutual aid channels: 866.0125, 866.5125, 867.0125, 867.5125, and 868.0125. These are always use in analog mode. The local PD can have these programmed into their radios, as can the FHP. Doesn't matter if the equipment is Ma/Comm, Motorola, or whatever, as these channels are conventional and not trunked.

They were supposed to allow the FHP troops that have intersystem talkgroups on county/local systems to keep their working Motorola radios. I don't know if that is actually happening. The GE/Ma-Comm/Critical Communications and toaster company has serious issues that at least require a complete reprogramming of all units that were supposed to be on the air in SE/E Florida. Of course there is no information about how it is working? on the west coast and other areas. There are roaming issues with the system design. Oh well we tossed out Motorola that was working and made here in Florida for a system that is years behind schedule.

I wonder why we don't hear about how well it is working everywhere else except through their press relases??

i work for the Sheriff;s Office here in panama city/bay county and fhp is indeed in ma/com system here but they have no use talking to our agencys here in fact we have 3 of there hand helds for the system but they are still in the box in a cabnet lol. also the way the mutial aid channels work here is wirerd they repeat mode is turned off and only the EOC consoles can turn them on repeat mode dispatch at the pd's and the SO can monitor and have the repeat mode turned on as always not many offices know how to get to the MA channels and teaching them is like pulling teeth also talahasse monitors MA TAC 1

By NPSPAC Region policy that is the way the MA Repeaters are supposed to be operated, left off until needed.

Thanks for the tip. I've been monitoring these for a couple of weeks now and haven't heard anything yet though.

All of the FHP Regional Communications Centers maintain the FDLE comm as well. FDLE is "responsible" for managing the Mutual Aid channels in Florida. M/A Call is always on, the TAC channels (1-4) are not.

(Well, thats not always true - in the areas where the M/A Com system is in place and is encountering problems, FHP has M/A Call and TAC 1 on when the M/A Com fails. This is the backup to the the multi-gazillion dollar, 2 year over-due system they scrapped the working Moto system for... Sorry had to vent there)

A call to the FHP RCC in your area on M/A Call - specifically calling FDLE - and they will switch it on if needed. They just did that in Brevard CO when they had the pursuit from Volusia to Brevard involving numerous agencies.

You're right tho - teaching people to use this system is like beatin an old dog.

Now - for interagency ops - (I am laughing here....) There is a system patch for the M/A Com system that allows EDACS channels to be patched with Motorola TGs on a limitied basis. The State of Florida bought this so called system upgrade, however, I have yet to see it work like it should. It was developed for the Military and some smooth talker in Tallahassee sold it to the state.

Plus, a good percentage of the agencies in the state still have some sort of VHF or UHF intercity comms that they talk to each other on. Here in Orlando its VHF analog conventional on 155.3700

FDLE is not responsible for all of the Mutual Aid channels in the state. They do monitor MA CALL and have the capabilities to turn on MA TAC1, but they do not have access to TAC's 2, 3 & 4 that the County's usually install.

Also by Region 9 policy MA CALL is not to be repeated at any time. It is configured normally as 1/2 duplex non-repeated and designed this way so it doesn't become a "working channel" during normal circumstances.
