That is the common white lie the salesman, police and fire dept's use to get funding for new systems.. every city says the same thing.. but they almost NEVER use the functionality... although its technically possible.. just as it was before the move.. i.e. fleetnet patches OPP to DRPS and so on.

Recently there was a patch set up between Fleetnet (OPP) and the Toronto system (TPS) - it sounded absolutely *HORRIBLE*. If that's what interop is supposed to sound like - do not want.

What are the odds the new Fleetnet will be in the 700Mhz band?.

There's really no reason why they /couldn't/, but I doubt they would. All the antenna equipment on vehicles and sites are VHF, site locations are for VHF, etc... - if they switched to 700MHz, every vehicle would need a new antenna, sites would need new antennas and they'd very likely (almost for certain) need to add additional sites, probably double what they have now.

In all the ambulances I've seen, the control heads are O5. I don't think any of their channels are digital. I would have thought that the radios would still be MCS2000 unless they were planning to migrate to digial P25

I've only seen MCS2000s around London as well. I'll take a closer look next time I'm working at one of the hospitals.

Doubtful. They've got too much money invested in VHF to make a switch economical.

My sources have told me that existing non-government agencies that are currently on Fleetnet are being told that they will not be moved to the new Fleetnet. They must find a new home.

Guelph already has a replacement 700MHz system on the air.

It'll be Astro25 for sure (100% digital). Some degree of Phase II would also make sense (for MTO roads etc I'd think).

Amazing info here. Will the -436HP be able to decode all these perplexing systems? I'm still hoping for an NXDN upgrade...

Thanks! I'm absolutely astounded as to how far this technology has come in the 20yrs since I've been scanning. Can you imagine if the Haruteq manual was still being published? It would have to be updated at least twice a year at the rate things are moving. Gone are the days when we simply entered a frequency and hit the "scan" button. LOL! Today's scanner's are nothing short of a mini computer...

Law enforcement will be Encrypted on the new system. Why they dont just retrofit the existing units is beyond me. With all the OPP on fleetnet Motorola should be able to either create a custom firmware or manufacture a module for the radios in operation.

Then again it is our tax $$$ being spent so cost will not be an issue. Building a whole new system may very well be the route chosen.

Because it's not in Motorola's best interest to try and nurse along 10+ year old Astro Spectras. No different than any other industry, they want to migrate you to the latest and greatest.

I would question whether there are any Astro Spectra's left in service. I thought most had been upgraded to XTL's?
