This really hurts. With so few resources for local information, losing Jims site is painful. His message sounds as though it is a permanent deletion.

I have several large projects going at the moment, but I WILL have a board up for us by Sunday. I already own the domain, and have plenty of bandwidth. I'll just need about 50 of you guys to help me out running the place.

I'm not going to cover the entire northeast corridor though. All Of NJ and New York City for starters.

Volunteers? Email me at this address: http://scan-nj.com/site-pages/contact.shtml

The email address works, but it's not a link - You'll have to type it. Keeps the spam out of my inbox.

I'll have the board up and functional by Sunday morning. At a minimum, I'll need at least one moderator for each county or borough, preferably two.

This is going to take quite a bit of teamwork, hopefully we can pull it off reasonably successful.

I too am sad to see this site go. I dropped off the site about 7 months after a dispute with another member over trival BS. Putting up with constant PM's from this ITG (internet tough guy) made me realize that it just wasn't worth it. So now as unfair as it is, I lurk and only post when I have something relevant to add to a discussion.
Jim, Good Luck and please concider reconcidering, the site is a great source of timely accurate information for our rapidly changing hobby.....

Larry and Scott, I'm willing to help you both in any way I can and will be a moderator if you need me. I prefer Monmouth & Ocean Counties in New Jersey, as I am most knowledgeable in those areas. Don't know too much about the other counties.

It's very unfortunte and sad to see these things happen. Jim's site was certainly one of the oldest sources for scanner info in the Northeast. It was one of the first sites I found for scanning when I first found my way to the internet ten years ago, and it endured.

For what it's worth, my site (http://www.scancapecod.us) has been covering Massachusetts for quite some time. We try to keep things as up to date and current as possible, but as always it's a work in progress. I recently upgraded the message forum to VBulletin, and content is growing.

RR and SS are invaluable resources on a plane of existance that few if any could match or approach, but the regional and state specific sites are invaluable as well and most definitely have a niche.

Best of luck to everyone starting anew, and regards to Jim for his efforts over the years.

just a suggestion and more of a curiosity among the rest of you, would the idea of having sections dedicated in each county to discussing ongoing events I.e. fires, police calls, ems, mvas etc as well as say wet downs or classes be a well received idea?

I know here in monmouth county I am always interested in talking about different events and getting everyones view on an event or call.

Anybody that has any other interest in the 'new start-up' idea, please get with me via PM on that matter, as to not have this forum post grow to 20+ pages :)

I'm sure we can get something going soon, but as they say, it takes a village to raise a child...

Was very shocked at this news as well. I was moderator of General NJ, Hudson, Mercer, and Middlesex counties. Stupid childishness that is all to common in this hobby has brought down a great resource. Can't blame Jim though. With all he does, if I were him, I wouldn't want to keep dealing with it eaither.

For everybody from NJ, there is currently a new NJ board being set up by some of us old moderators (Me, Joeseph11, MikeA, Mr. Burracelli, Elias, etc) from NJ. I won't post the URL yet since its still being developed, but, give us some time, and NJ will be up and running again. If you would like to help out getting it up, PM me, I'll channel it to the proper people, and see what we can do to make a new site.

Hi Guys,

Good luck with getting the NJ site up and running. If you decide to do your own server, make sure that security and operating system patches are current! I really don't have time to run my own server so I use a third party hosted arrangement so the hosting company takes care of those very important details.

Hey you guys keep forgetting about my PhillyScanner Yahoo group (covering SE PA, South Jersey, and Delaware). We have over 500 members. And there is rarely any problems with members. And if there is, it gets delt with swiftly.

And I know it's not free, but nobody mentioned my Philadelphia Area Communications Guide as a reference for scanner information. In fact (and you heard it first here) there will be some interesting changes happening to the e-book very soon.

thanks,

As a subscriber to Joe's Philadelphia Area Communications Guide, I'll attest to the value of the publication. It is very comprehensive and Joe updates it continually so the information is very up to date. $19.95 per year is a small price to pay for an excellent publication! Keep up the good work Joe!

In reference to the message board mentioned by erikTromatowski, I'm planning on posting a link to it next week. I'm working on getting everything in order on it.

Hello Group,
I will miss Jim's site. I used it frequently in my travels around the NE.

A quick nod to the Phillyscanner site and E-Book. Good people and great detailed information.

New Jersey and NYC boards are up at http://forums.scan-nj.com
It's Plain Jane for now, but it will work. There will be time to change all the default stuff later.

Several of the moderators from fordyce have contacted me, and volunteered their services once again. Which I am gladly accepting of course. :)

We'll have to re-create everything that we once took for granted, so anyone with information is encouraged to contribute what ever you can.
