I figured as much as they never covered that in the training. They did say that when the city fails, we can go to a different zone (20 maybe?) which accesses the "Fallback channels". Does the screen on the radio show anything different when this happens? And how does the radio know to go into this mode? Is there a "kill signal" or "fail signal" that is sent from the towers?

All very cool stuff since it usually doesn't happen in day to day operations!

The master controller will switch over after 3 seconds when a major problem is detected. Once it switches it sends a digital signal over every freq. the radio will recive this and automatically switch over to fail soft. It's almost like the way the operator can brick your radio. Think of as mdc 1200 but on a trunked system the radio recives the data burst I have audio of the data burst the minute the system went into FAILSOFT. Also when in this mode the radios screen should say FAILSOFT.

It appears you have an incorrectly programmed radio. I can guarantee you that nearly every talkgroup has a failsoft assignment.

Ok I read two more radios. One was a spare pd radio and one was an fd radio. The FAILSOFT frequencies listed are all the system freqs in order excluding the control channels. This is a total of 24 freqs. This would be logical because my radio only had half of them 12. Mine cuts off in the middle of the list. Now that I know this problem I can add the other 12. I think there is a reason for 24 and not 28. If my radio had half and the other two had 24 them I believe only 24 are used. This does not mean that all 28 cannot be used but the county's template only lists 24. Excluding the control channels.
