Forgive me if you've tried this, but:

Lower your volume level from the scanner
Check to make sure that "20dB mic gain" offered on some sound cards is disabled
Scanner squelch should always be open (for the sync signal)

From my previous message:

The volume levels have been adjusted to the point where the acarsd status bar is between 9 and 15 with the scanner's squelch open (noisy).

Have tried the default sampling rate, plus the other two options (22050/44100). Sound card is a Hercules GameTheaterXP

jay, your closeness to the airport doesn't matter.

are you getting any data at all on the message screen, even garbled?

Not a single bit. I'm wondering if there are some settings I have overlooked at this point. I'm using a channel licensed to ARINC in my province (Alberta, specifically near Calgary). The machine has only one sound card, as detected by Windows (there's onboard sound as well, but it's disabled/not recognized by XP). The correct input is selected in audio properties/volume levels, and as mentioned, I can hear what I presume to be ACARS data quite clearly, especially after repositioning the scanner - but still no joy. :p

jay, if not getting even garbled data, something isn't set right or the data is not getting there.

couple of things off the top of my head -

have you tried connecting to one of the remote acarsd servers, and if so, does that work?

you say you hear the data - are you hearing it from the radio speaker, or are you hearing it on the computer speakers? are you running the cable to line-in or mic-in? do you have a dedicated audio out port on the scanner? if so, use it instead of the speaker/headphone jack on the radio.

also, i assume you are not using an external antenna, once you get it working, you will get a lot more data if you can put up an outside antenna.

OK, another question. Under "Map Configure", the box that asks for "validity of the messages in seconds", is that how long the flight stays on the map?

ACARSD Map

After reading the thread, I became reinterested in finding a map to use with ACARSD I am using (ver1.65). But i have failed again. The program is running great but I can not for the life of me, get a map for my area to work. Can anyone point me in the direction of either a already created map or some site where I can try and create a map that might work. Thanks for any assistance.

Yup, confirmed, that is how long your flight will stay on the map in seconds.

Here is a map generator. The info at the bottom can be used to set the co-ords of the map

http://www.sailwx.info/maps/shipplotter.phtml

Now I have a few maps (sat images) that I use in my ship plotting software that I copied over and used with this. The plots for my location was quite a bit off. I know the sat images are calibrated correctly as the river is narrow and I watch the freighters pass on by.

I will try a few things with this again tonight to see if I can get my maps working correctly.
