Is there any way to change the frequency stepping in BCD996P2 in service search? It seems to step 1.25 and no way
to change it.

I haven't found a way either, even in quick search either, only in custom search can it be changed. If there is a way maybe someone can enlighten us...

What band? The scanner doesn't cover a 1.25khz step
MENU > SETTINGS > BAND DEFAULTS > SET STEP Read more
here

EDIT: The above steps have no effect on service searches. Best course of action would be to create a custom search for each range you want to scan and set your desired step size there

Yeah, I mean that's like buying a car with no windshield wipers. No idea in the world why that's not an option.

I would think that it had to be ment that every kind of search should follow the bandplan steps, except the searches where you can program the steps. To me it sounds as a bug, if a change of step size in the bandplan have no effect to a service or quick search. @JoeBearcat

I don't know I'm about to return this thing. Now I can barely hear anything anymore. So frustrating. Everything was fine now conversations are cut off and hardly any traffic. Smh

I can confirm to you that Franklin County PA (and Washington County MD) are both extremely busy with fire/ems calls, and also that simulcast distortion is likely an issue for you with a 996.

the service search is to scan preset frequencies.
so if you are scanning the CB band there might be someone who is off 5khz from a channel.
sure he will sound off frequency, because he is.
so the way to go is to custom scan the CB range.
under settings you can get into BAND DEFAULTS and change the step size and mode.
but again, service search is set up to go through channels not frequencies.
