Why cant I enter in a frequency between 600-700mhz?There are wireless mics and things to hear there.

The band coverage is listed in the owner's manual, the x36's do not include coverage from 512 thru 758 MHz.

I know that,I just would like to know why this range is missing?

Because it was not financially acceptable to Uniden to include coverage for a band almost nobody would use.

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
Because it was not financially acceptable to Uniden to include coverage for a band almost nobody would use.

I've always wondered why that is. Does the FCC charge for certification by the megahertz or what? Seriously!

Coverage gaps used to bug me too - I've got a perfectly useless BC895 that I can't even turn into a Unitrunker scanner because it won't tune any 700MHz control channels (Neither will my $500 BC796D, which I also was a little miffed about).I know, I know they weren't type accepted for it and so on, but they are also older than dirt at this point,so what's the harm in releasing the firmware spec and letting us play around with 'em? About all I use both radios for now is to keep the spot underneath them on my dresser dust free. ;)

There's still plenty of analog to listen to and such, so I can use 'em for that, but you get the point - I'd much rather let that old workhorse 895 of mine chug away on a control channel or two and log stuff. It's already tapped, just needs the ability to tune the 700MHz band. Alas, it probably never will. Meanwhile my cheapie little $20 RTL dongle can tune it and lots of other places none of my far more pricey scanners ever could! That's just one of a growing list of reasons why I'm moving away from scanners and into SDR.

I still don't know why I can't use or buy 45 rpm records anymore.

Seriously.... the BC895 is a very good MilAir radio.

AFAIK, No, but the circuitry required does involve cost.

And if they would ADD a new band to an existing model, then yes, the FCC would charge them an additional fee for the new Type Acceptance. (seriously)

Every included band has a filter set and supporting circuitry that adds significantly to the cost to make the scanner (which translates into higher retail price).

Uniden does not deliberately put out crap like that. Also, there would be issues with not having the circuitry to reject Cellular images, so it might not pass FCC Type Acceptance.

even if

even if it didnt cellular is Digital and encrypted and can not be decoded or heard by the average person, why would this even be a problem? If they unblocked the radio totally you can not hear cellular. My beef is I have a not so cheap radio that skips frequencies that are not cellular.
I have a radio that does 600mhz but I'd like to use my uniden.

If that set of nearly useless freqs.was so important to you, why didn't you read the spec. before you bought it?

You assumed it would cover it and your assumption was wrong.

On cellular, Fcc still requires it to be blocked - even though some comms. have migrated there.

yeah

I know that I just think its easy enough for them to leave this part of the radio spectrum in the scanner, since its all done with software, but it works
good enough for what I do with it.Ever hear the more the merrier? You say why,I say why not.

I've been waiting for someone to point out that the frequencies in question are TV channels. Before digital you could listen to the audio portion of the TV signal on a scanner. Now with digital TV you can't. Icom once made a receiver that had an LCD screen and could receive analog TV channels. It had some scanning capabilities. Since there is no 2-way radio in the range you specified and you can't receive DTV, what did you want to hear?

Because the ECPA was never repealed and it requires certain image rejection of Cellular frequencies. The modes used are irrelevant.
