I have a uniden bcd325p2 scanner and I can hear some stuff. But some stuff I cant. I live in grant co wi. What kind of antena is best for this scanner. And setting for programing it. Some stuff is p25 and some analog. Just cant hear like car to car police traffic before they switched to digital.
Looking at your county in the
database, the local public safety agencies are mostly Vhf-high, with a few using Uhf. Some use P25 (digital) on conventional channels, though most are analog. If there have been changes to their usage, it has not yet been submitted to the database. I see a couple are tagged as part-time encrypted. Your 325P2 will ignore encrypted radio traffic. Other than the two talkgroups Chris posted, from the
statewide system, most agencies, apparently, are not currently using that trunked system.
The Remtronix
842B is a good option for Vhf & Uhf. Another option is the
RH789. That's a telescoping antenna. It has markings with suggestions on how far to extend it for desired frequency bands. The
Diamond RH77CA is a good antenna for Vhf-high & Uhf, but at around 18 inches long, some may consider the length obtrusive when trying to carry the scanner around.
Are you using software for programming? (If so, which program?) You might try programming the channels as "search", and let the scanner find whether they are still analog, or have converted to digital. If you know they are P25 (digital), set the channel to digital, and "search" so that the scanner can find what NAC code is being used.
