• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi, I am looking for opinions on getting a digital scanner or a G5 to listen to the p25 law channels in my area.

From youtube it looks like the G4/5 does a better job of catching everything compared to a trx1 or 436.

I have my analog scanner and ham radios for listening to pretty much everything else.

I am leaning towards Unification but unsure after seeing comments like Beofeng and missing transmissions. I could save the extra money and get a scanner if I am still going to be missing things.

This is the group I want to listen to along with VHF fire:

The data for the system you linked to says it is simulcast. Therefore the Unication is your only choice for guaranteed reception vs the Uniden and Whistler which act like broken toys with simulcast systems.

the G5 works 100% better than the TRX-2 here in Ohio we have a state wide 700\800 system the TRX-2 don;t seem to monitor the system OR i'm in a dead spot the G5 works 100% on the Ohio Marc's System hands down

I will add my 2 cents.

My Unication G4 - gets the Austin, TX Simulcast system everytime. Both my Uniden 536 HP and HP-2 miss quite a bit and drop out. My G4 (G5 should be the same) works stellar !!

You got Simulcast P25 system - get a Unication G4 or G5.

Unication Nation

I'm a proud new member of the Unication Nation! I can tell you that the G4 has no peers when it comes to monitoring simulcast systems. It is revolutionary. I struggled with a Uniden Home Patrol unit and it serves as little more than an expensive paperweight. The G4 blows it out of the water. Spend a little more money on a Unication receiver. It will be the best radio purchase you've ever made.
