Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Probably not the "official" way, but how I do it...
-Remove the belt clip--you might be able to do this without pulling the clip, but it's a pain.
-Loosen the two screws on the bottom of the battery door
-Pull the battery and count to 10
-Replace it all and charge that battery.

Good luck.

You dont have to take off the belt clip.
FYI, IF you ever let the battery die in one of these. You need to remove it, then put it back in then plug it in to charge.
If you try to charge a dead battery with out removing it first, it will not charge.
I left several on at work over a weekend. None would charge. Then on a whim i took out the battery on one, put it back in and bam started to charge. So i did this to all of them and they all fully recovered.

Considering a G4 or G5 - what's the real-world battery life people are seeing on these units?

While parked on a single site monitoring 5 to 10 talk groups, my G5 battery lasts 10 to 12 hours.. Unication recommends replacing the battery once a year.

Same but I have 27 TGs, sites broken into zones, so depending on what zone i am in activity will fluctuate between 10-15 active TGs, averaging about 10-12ish hours on a single charge.

I may also add that in order to further methods to save battery :
I keep the pager volume to 15/20 while its connected to my powerful Noxgear small wearable BT speaker. The speaker volume is half way up.
Pager screen is set to dim few seconds after each key up.

I have not had the same experiences at all.

Mine has inadvertently died and did not require a pull. On standby with less than 10 minutes total Rx it will last 14-18 hours easily and if it is constantly on with high volume perhaps 9-12
