I noticed the G5 desktop charger has been out of stock for months on the Unication website. Is this available through dealers? Has anyone purchased them recently? Don't really need the amplified version...

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I believe you need to purchase through a dealer like East Coast Pagers, rather than direct from Unication. They have it in stock and on sale.

I have had both chargers as well. I Sold the standard charger, kept the amplified charger. Purchased from Ray's Pager sales. Ray ships very quickly, pretty sure it's same day. There are several unication dealers and I don't recall any post about problems with them. Some are active on this forum and even this thread
I've ordered from both East Coast and Rays. Both were great to deal with. I have 2 of the amplified version one for each of my G5s. I've used them both at home and mobile. They allow for the attachment of an external antenna which is GREAT!!

I have had nothing but problems with the desktop chargers and still have a couple of new ones in the box.
What kind of problems are you having and which desktop charger?

The standard desktop charger, very finicky. you can check and double check that the pager is in correctly and charging and wake up the next morning to a dead or low pager battery with no contact.

The price differences between the standard desk and amp charger is minimal when you consider the amp charger features:
1- Provide strong sounds from my G5 @ volume level 25 and the amp charger slightly turned up. Office space of a not noisy 15x30.
2- The antenna in the back of the amp charger provides more coverage than the pager stubby antenna ( secondary band).
3- Amp charger foot print is minimal.
4- Having my G5 volume level @ 25 while sitting the amp charger , have saved pagers internal battery.
5- Power cable is included.
Having said that , the pager must rest properly in the amp charger to support the above, while it does not support the BT.

They may have improved the design since, we haven't bought any since so I'm working off of what the chargers were like 3-6 years ago.
I have been taking my amplified charger with me on the road at my job and it works great. I have a cigarette lighter adapter and a dedicated 800mhz rubber duck which I put on back of charger...driving all over 2 or 3 counties I get perfect coverage. The rubber duck improves reception greatly. When I get outta range on the zone I am in I just switch to the new zone and hear everything loud and clear. The charger sits right in a recessed space on top of dash board. We drive in a Ford Transit van.
I'll be honest I can't imagine having a unication pager and not having the amplified charger. I've used it both mobile and base, and frankly it works great especially on the G5's when I have a need to monitor VHF on it. Although I'll say this, the G5 in the internal antenna on VHF outdoes anything scanner wise I have here even with a telescoping antenna other than my OLD Relm scanner which rocks on the VHF bands.
