• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi all! Probably a dumb question, but I got my (used) G-5 today, and just finished programming! Very excited. I am on the Beaufort County SC system, which is a Palmetto 800. It is simulcast. I programed in the control channel, and am only getting 'out of range'. My guess is I've done something wrong. Any help appreciated! (There are other sites, should I use the control channel for those as well?). 1 is further away than 20 miles but the rest are close. So I'm sure its something I did. Thanks!

Review how to do System ID, RFSS, WACN and SITE number all easily seen on SITE you're trying to hear *listed in the RRef database. You go for the closest SITE. Rarely are these things actually "OUT of RANGE" 9 times out of 10 with 1st time programs ... it's been those four things.
You should list the SITE you are trying to get in a link and people can help better. You'll love the clarity and reception on these things soon

If you still have the old profile in PPS, you can go tab C, then C2, select the old profile, and click on "Convert New Model" at the bottom.

If you don't have the old profile, but still have the old G5, you could use C3 to "Read Profile from Device" first.

Just to add to this..... make sure all your talk groups are set up properly after converting on the D4 screen .When I did the conversion I got an error and had to delete the bad talk groups!

thanks working on it..i'll be back. well here i go, my old g-5 was 800/vhf
new one is g-5 800/400-470mhz DMR, BEFORE I CONVERT MY OLD program
do i need to delete the vhf file or just delete it in the file it's self. i've been pretty frustrated with the G-5 dealer with instructions he's missed. i'm confused as i look at the file that was on the new g-5 which is from his area, he was supposed to add DMR it . well i can't tell if i have it or not. i looked for it via my serial #
and i didn't see it in the settings. but yet when i look at other file numbers it shows the DMR mode is there. so i'm so confused now to the point i need help.
do i have to install DMR manually or use a different program file. this G-5 was sent back because it was in the wrong uhf range, so any help is really appreciated.

converting file?
i'm looking for some answers about converting my old file which was a 800/vhf
to my new g-5 800/uhf. i tried converting it but wasn't successful. It showed that
i had to correct something. well, I tried to delete the vhf part of the file. thinking that it wouldn't convert until i got rid of it. also when and if i get the old file converted which PPS do i use to program the new G-5 800/uhf?. All that comes up after converting is the vhf file? now i'm lost. I guess i must be getting closer to starting all over again, seems like trying to make things easier, tells you your back to square 1, and might as well start over or sell. well, again thanks for any help.

Copy your old profile. Delete all of the VHF data and add the UHF data.

thanks, I was in that mode, but got I little confused because I wasn't sure if that would change my model number?. I figure that the model number has everything to do with what bands will work. I and i had no help from the place
I bought it from, one model number goes-G5B64BF other one goes G5B67BF.
I guess i'll have to look again at what the suggested model number is when i connect it to the radio. any info is greatly appreciated.
thanks again
