• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The peak is 25 feet up. Each side is about 20 feet.
Thanks. I or the balun and am going to build the v dipole. If it works, I may order the linear amp.
Linear amp, then you will need a new radio to drive it, then bigger coax for the power, then something to jack up the house so you can rotate the antenna on the side of it.

Great. Although an inverted V is horizontally polarized and good for DX, they have worked for me talking to some of the locals here on there verticals 6-8 miles away. Sounds like you’re interested in DX. You will do fine broadside. Ideally above the peak and turnable even by hand. I’m sure you will come up with some good ideas.

Good luck with your project enjoy!!! Once you realize the next logical step after the dipole build you might be hooked on building antennas!!!

Elephant-sized ears over the distance they can trumpet (we’ll leave out infrasound). The basic best-value AM/SSB NRC radio will make it clear what’s wanted past its abilities. (35-50W).

Version One of this radio is now discounted heavily. An unreal bargain in performance.

It’s what I’d use to help evaluate an antenna system past other devices given a DRX-901 speaker accompanies it.

The guys on 6 and 11…and many other channels are often running into the thousands of watts. It’s completely unnecessary and a sign of severe mental illness. Obvious if you listen to what they are saying…usually chanting actually, over and over and freaking over again…four ten.

Glad to hear you say that. Haha. I thought I was missing something.

On Skip, make no mistake, quite a few are paid to interfere 24/7/365 on AM-19.

Oh I’m very aware. Someone (maybe the FCC?) should do something. But on channel 6 the guys that just key up and chant incessantly repeating themselves is clearly a problem that requires a professional…a professional that can prescribe medication.

Okay. But they contain the weird to CH 6.
May be some outliers, but that’s a great thing it’s on but one frequency.

What occurs with DX is another thing.

CH-6 does make for some fun. Tell a new guy (“can’t hear anything”) and ask him the meter reading for 6. Work on getting that “better”.

Sometimes hearing anything is motivation to examine what works and why. Had the story of more than one truck driver in old fleet truck start there. Who’d a thought CH 6 was useful, right?
