• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

XPR Getting back into Motorola and I have some questions (XPR)

I sold off all of my Motorola XPR radios a few years ago, and now I'm regretting it and want to get back into it. I feel like it's been forever so I have a few questions before I jump back in.
  • It sounds like MOTOTRBO CPS is free in the Motorola portal now? My subscription expired on 8/10/20, so if it's now freely available, where should I see the download? In my downloads I see "MOTOTRBO Repeater Diagnostics, Alarms and Control (RDAC) version 10.0 Build 109", "Radio Management Template to Configuration Migration Analysis Tool", and "MOTOTRBO Device Discovery and Mobility Service (DDMS) 3.80.5001" as available, but no CPS.
  • Assuming CPS is freely available now, does it really matter what version of CPS the radio was programmed when I am buying new?
  • Is it accurate that the only difference between the 7550e and the 7550 is that the e-version has wifi and that's it?
  • Does anyone know the part number for the remote head kit for the 5550? Is it just one part number or do I need more hardware?
I appreciate any insight and/or corrections on this before I dump a bunch of money back into this!

The e version is better with range, audio quality (though little) and was just discontinued by Motorola. The old CPS is free, but I have not seen any free CPS2.0. I have my own (legally bought) and was just wondering if there was any free version lol.

My best friend is now a SK (as of two months ago), and I'm taking over our shared site, and his XPR-8400. I have a MyView account now, and have access to (3) RDAC versions, but I have learned to not be too eager to use late release software on this 2017 repeater. I know he used RDAC to monitor it, so I'm thinking I need to use version 10, build 109 from 2019. I have read/written to it with R16 version 863, and think version 868 is probably OK. I have read where you can "brick" it reading it with CPS2.0. Am I correct on using that version of RDAC on this 8400?
Thanks, Len

YES, I recently found a copy of Cps2.0 for my Xpr 6550.

Seeing as the XPR-6550 was canceled long before CPS 2.0 came out. No you didn't.

But the 7550 being a Gen 2 radio, it’ll work fine with 2.0. The 6550 being a Gen 1 radio needs the legacy version.
The very latest CPS 2.151.292.0 has absolutely no issue whatsoever reading/writing my Gen 1 XPR 6550.

Yes, I have some gmrs pairs prog in and a 70cm repeater and a few public safety chan for receive only. Still feeling my way around the software for Dmr use.
Ok, thanks. I use CPS 16 on my 6550's, never tried 2.0 but, I only have the Wideband on 16 so I'd need to use it anyway on them. I also use 16 on the 6580's I have, I may have to try and read one of those with 2.0, but thus far 16 has worked. Thanks.

I think Cps 2.0 is needed for Win 10/11 that's why I'm using 2.0
